No clue as to what that neck is from, but he claims he put the whole guitar together for about $120...

...back in the 60's.

It looks like this is where the neck came from that's used in the original video clip :

The Tele-Sonic fall in that category. This guitar sported a pair of DeArmond P-90 soapbar pickups, a Fender Tech-Tonic stop tailpiece (designed by George Blanda), a Gibson 24.5"-scale length, a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard and black-painted headstock, as well as a chambered mahogany body. Controls and switching are purely Gibson-like, as well as the shorter 24.5" scale length.

PS: This Tele is not mine.

I use a trad black P90 soapbar in neckposition on my '81 JV Tele '52 (Mashahiro Shimokura). Makes the Tele breath and adds body, heath and warmth to the tone without losing that particular Tele-twang. An amazing sounding instrument. A truly great player and wellused on records and on tours in Europe and the US.

At first, I didn't want to modify the all original JV Tele and got myself a new '52 Ri which I fitted with a humbucker in neckposition. That didn't do the trick. I finally decided to modify the JV Tele and I don't regret it for a second. I love my JV Tele more than ever.

Did your butterscotch blackguards had a 5-way selector? The 5-way switch offers much greater versatility than the standard 3-way; it really helps to produce a nice single coil-like sound from the outer coil of the neck-position humbucking pickup!

"JV" as in Japan Vintage?

Yes, I believe JV stands for Japan Vintage. As I've gathered, the story goes: Fender produced guitars in Japan under the name of Squire (and Squire by Fender). But the masterbuilders were eventually allowed by Fender to (under supervison) build guitars under the name of Fender. The instruments were tagged JV. Each instrument featured a Fender neck plate with the masterbuilders name engraved. Very few Tele '52 were built, but loads of Strat's (and later the engraved names on the neckplate, were replaced by serial #)

It has a 3-way switch but modern wiring, so I can adjust the tone on the neck p-u.
