I'm thinking buying a used Telecaster MIM. It's a little beat up but sounds good. Are they all the same over the years? Or the newer ones better?

My understanding is that the newer ones made in the last couple of years are better compared to earlier ones. Perhaps it's the new "state of the art" Fender factory in Ensenada Mexico. I can only pass on my personal experience with my 2009 which I really like. Very nice fit, finish, tone and playability. The also like the newer ones which have tinted necks.

I heard 2001 was one of Fender's best "modern" years (not including the vintage stuff) at least for Stratocasters but I'm not sure if that's for Teles as well or Fender in general.

Anyhow, you should just try it out and see if you like it! If you do, you got a great guitar! If you don't, don't buy it!

There were some problems with quality in some 90s MIM Teles but the post 2000 Teles are generally very good to exceptional.

Well I bought it. Best $100. I ever spent. It's a beat up 07 but the neck is real nice it had the original strings on it. I put new strings on and cleaned it up real good. And it sounds great. I love that Tele twain.

Thanks for all replays.

My wife bought me a MIM tele for my wedding present about a year and a half ago and I love this guitar. I changed out the pups for some 54' nocasters and put some locking sperzel gears on it and I'd never part with it. It's very comfortable to play and I literally can't tell the difference between it and a fancy 1300 MIA. If you like it, it's the right guitar for you. :D
