my guitar instructor stopped by my house today and he was playing my Tele for a bit and ripping it to shreds, but he mentioned that he really liked it, was intoned perfect, etc...and then said he would put a 4 way switch in it.

Does anyone have a 4 way switch in their Tele and how do you like it? I never really thought about it until he mentioned it.

I just bought a four-way switch for my NY Pro Tele copy and will be installing it, push/pull pots and one of the two humbuckers I purchased for the bridge position. I have both a "stacked" humbucker and a "Hot Rails" type bridge pickups which once wired with the four-way will allow me to coil split the bridge for additional "tone" options.

The hold up to completing this upgrade is I need to decide which of the two bridge humbuckers to install.

The online shop I bought the pickups and other electronics from upon my explaining my needs designed and provided an easy wiring schematic/diagram for me to follow in addition to designating the type/size of capacitor.

I chose to do this modification to my NY Pro Tele copy rather then bugger either my '08 Squier Tele Custom or my now "sold off" Squier '51 (which I couldn't bear to alter).

You looking for neck, both parallel and series and bridge BCB?

I had one installed 7 years ago on my Blonde Tele but it brings back bad memories.lol I stopped in my friends store to get a new switch and he showed me the 4 way which he just got in. I was down for trying it and he said come back in a few hours. Well when I came in to pick it up I saw him walk fast around the counter and he started blurting out how sorry he was and that he would pay for the damage. DAMAGE, Iwas like what the hell happened and he went on to explain after he put the 4 way in he hung the guitar on the top row of hangers and the hanger gave out causing the guitar to fall about 7 feet and taking a big chunk out of the body.

Now this was a good friend who always did the right thing and was being put out of buisness as Sam Ash opened a store 10 blocks from him. The wind up was I told him to forget it and that he could just work on my guitars for free . I put 2 big decals over the damage and thankfully he got it to play almost as good as new and I still have that ax as it is 17 years old. The sad part was he eventually had to close up, but if it was ever a chain store they would of bought themselves a guitar.

Check the classic player baja tele. I believe that it has a 4way(if memory serves)!

Hi, I have a MIM Tele thinline and had Texas Specials pups with a four way switch installed. The stock pickups were good but the specials and 4 way makes the guitar scream. I recommend it however, I would have it done by a professional.

Sounds like a nice rig! If you can download a demo it would appreciated.

I can recommend a 4 way switch. It provides a little extra versatility. It is a relatively cheap mod that yields good results.

If you are handy with a soldering iron then consider fitting yourself. The Fender Tele 4 way mod switch p/n 099 2250 000 comes with a wiring diagram.

You bet DO IT !

I have two of my Tele's with the 4 way, one with Texas Specials and one with Nocasters. In series makes the tone a little fatter and also a little more boom. Sounds nice a little dirty !

I have a 4 way on a tele modded by Rob DiStefano. It is
1st...bridge
2nd...bridge/neck parallel
3rd...bridge/neck series
4th...neck

It is alot of fun and adds some musable slash usable tones for fun and experimentation. I like it and I am going to do 4 ways on other teles as well

The only Tele I have that has 4 way switching is a Classic Player Baja. The 4th position puts the neck and bridge pickups in series for a fatter tone with more volume than the other pickup positions. It's a very nice tone option. Add the Baja's S-1 switch and there are 6 different available tones.

Hmmm, I also have a MIM Standard Tele that I upgraded with SCNs that I want to add 4 way switching to... thanks for reminding me. :)

I added the 4-way to one of my Teles. I've always said it's the best mod you can do to a guitar for $10.

yup, it's cheap and easy to install, adds a fourth position that's a blast!

imagine your tele on steroids, I use it for solos mainly, got one installed in a Tele 69 reissue thinline tele ('86 japan) and it's amazing.

gives you a good bump up in the volume and fatness department, nice for soloing or for fattening things up, perhaps a bit bassy for rock rhythm but amazing nonetheless

one of my favourite mods if you want to have some extra meat in a tele :D

I have 1 on my partscaster. & I love it. I have mine set up as N N/B B N=B. It sounds progressive to me.
