Has anyone out there put numbered knobs on thier tele or is that sacreligious? I am thinking of putting a couple strat knobs on mine but I think it looks a bit odd. I just like knowing what levels I am at rather than 10, 0, or somewhere in between.

If you want to avoid using Strat knobs, how about Gibson-type speed knobs?

Or some old-school chicken-head knobs?

You'd have to make sure they would fit, but I think either of those could look cool on a Tele. 8)

I like the Callaham Early 50's Broadcaster Dome Heavy Knurled Knobs. They make for good volume swells.

Muddy Waters used old amp knobs...as featured on his signature Tele which is now discontinued....

Amp knobs are your best bet unless you want to switch out your pots.

Strat knobs and Gibson speed knobs press onto split shaft pots.

Tele pots and amp pots are solid shaft with a flat spot on them. The knobs have a set screw that you tighten on the shaft to hold them in place.

These are Fender amp knobs and will do what you want.

Another option is to use the set screw on your current knob as a visual indicator of where the volume or tone is - you might have to rotate the pot under the control panel to get the set screw where you want it - be very careful not to break any solder joints if you do this.

Hello!

I'd go for a set of these. Bit like the Fender Elite.

Hope this helps

You can only put knob with set screw like Fender amps.

But I hear that old Jazzmaster have originald solid pot with strat like push in knob.

NO, solid shaft on amp and Telecaster DON'T have a flat spot, they are round.

Muddy Water had a tele with amp kobs

I think you're right and I was wrong. Here's a round, solid shaft Tele pot.

Image

I haven't assembled a new Telecaster in over a year so I guess I forgot that. I was thinking they had shafts like this with a flat spot, or a flat edge for the set screw to tighten on.

However, my original comment about Strat-style push-on knobs not fitting on a Telecaster pot shaft is still valid. Here's a Strat pot that accepts push-on knobs. In order to use most of the knobs pictured in this thread, like Strat knobs, Gibson speed knobs, and Elite style knobs, the original poster would have to change his pots to the type below. Using amp knobs is the easiest way to get numbers on the knobs.

Personally I dont like numbered knobs on a Tele. I know where I am by the side screw.
