just got a new highway one and have some noticable hum in the neck pup and in the bridge pup. when both pickups are selected (middle position) the hum drops off.

is this common?

i have an american deluxe strat with noiseless pups and 2 les pauls, all which are silent on my amps and cables.

thanks

This is common on single coils. Its 60 Cycle Hum.

You aren't going to get it on your Noiseless because........they are noiseless.

You aren't going to get it on your Humbuckers because.....the hum is 'bucked'.

I get the same from my Highway 1. I've always assumed it was the single coil pickups versus the humbuckers in a Les Paul.

i find it somewhat annoying but the guitar feels good and i got a decent deal on it.

if i can't get used to it i might look at some noiseless pups.

If you can't get used to it then sure go ahead with Noiseless but in my humble opinion thats 'de-tele-ing' it.

You could try the Hum-Debugger from Electro-Harmonix too if it remains a problem for you.

Its a normal thing, I think you are just noticing it because of your other pick-ups.

Enjoy her bro!

Cheers,

CC

+1
A Tele just doesn't sound right with noiseless pickups. Tele players have been dealing with 60 cycle hum for 60 years now. You can't hear the hum when you are playing and especially no way is it audible when the rest of the band kicks in. And just turn the volume knob on your Tele down between songs.

The reason the hum disappears when you select both pickups on the pickup selector is because the Hwy 1's pickups are reverse wound/reverse polarity (commonly seen as RWRP) so the hum gets cancelled out.

i am not going to "de-tele" my tele.

That's just another little idiosyncrasy that makes the Tele so unique and loveable.
