I am writing to get the word out. The 72' Fender Thinline is a great guitar. I have been a snob for the last 15 years and would only buy and play "Custom Shop" Fender strats & tele's, but I so loved the look of the 72' Thinline that I decided to buy one. Guess what? Unless you go to E-Bay you can forget it. Retailer's aren't stocking them worth a hoot and to find one on Fender's website you have to type it in on the search bar.

What a disgrace ! I ordered one thru my local dealer and waited for it to arrive. Granted, I was skeptical because it says "Made In Mexico" (see my snob comment above) but I was very excited when I saw it and put my hands around the neck.

Truth be told, it sounded tinny. So I took off the stock strings and put on a set of GHS wound nickel strings, then I had to set the intonation, but guess what? I played it on a gig this past weekend (Sat. & Sun) and it performed like a dream. It sounds fantastic and has a great neck. I use a Fender "Twin" (not Twin Reverb) Amp. I am in love with this guitar. I am told it is made in the USA and shipped to Mexico for assembly. I don't know if that is true or not, but I do know this. Fender should promote this guitar both on their website, pressure their dealers to stock this guitar and take pride in this great guitar. If they would set it up before they shipped it, everyone would be thrilled with it immediately. Mine is 3-color sunburst and I couldn't be happier. It will take a front row seat to my Custom Shop guitars without regret.

Spread The Word !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
John from Pennsylvania

Yeah, the 72 Thinline is a real sleeper. I have a couple of Japanese ReIssues, but recently bought an original vinatge one (mine is 1975) on eBay. Here she is:

Hey, I love 70's era Fender instruments, especially the tele's thanks for the info and I'll tell people about it. There's a site called Musiciansfriend that sells Fender guitars, as a matter of fact it's Fender's main export, so they trust them. I just wanted to let u know that the prices on this site are very good and they take good care of the instruments they sell, granted some will need to be set up and some may be damaged just because of the shipping(but if that's the case just return it), but a very good company that has a site even more up to date than this one! So just a head's up.

I would say however that people should definately try the instrument out at a shop before they buy, because it waists time and money for both parties to ship an instrument back and forth.

Thx for the heads up, I love 70's Fenders. :D

(and no, I don't work for this site, I just happened to have a good experiance w/ it  )

That's very odd... We can't keep them in stock hardly at our store! We have an employee that has bought two already now because he loves them so much. They're on my list of 'eventually guitars'. Just have to finish paying off my 60s Classic Tele
