To me it is, but perhaps you should play one and then you'll have a better idea. Because while I think Teles are great guitars, depending on your playing style and what you are looking for in a guitar, your thoughts and opinions may vary from mine.

Definitely! :D

If you don't want a Tremelo bridge, there is no better, more versatile guitar to buy IMHO.

I would urge people to go try them out for themselves. My taste in guitars is not the same as everyone else.

I would not urge someone to buy a Tele. I would urge them to play one, or a few, and choose if a Tele is right for them, and also what model would suite them best.

I got my Tele because it has the sound I want, and is pretty versatile. I am able to get good country twang, blues, classic rock, and modern crunch from it with minimal effects (TS7, amp reverb, and amp overdrive for the application which they suit). It also just feels right to me. This was a big factor in getting a Tele, and a big factor in getting a Mexi over a US model. It was all in the neck, how it felt and played. So all around it was a good guitar that you can get many sounds from, partly because its a versatile guitar, but also because, being so versatile, it was used by alot of greats and not-so-greats in various forms of music.

Now, if you want a heavier, more easily crunched sound, an LP or SG may be in order. If you want that great Gretsch sound, which I can only describe as that, well obviously get a Gretsch.

My suggestion, go into your local shop that has a good selection, tell them what you are looking for, and they will show you a few guitars which will probably suit what you want, and decide from there. However, you may see one guitar they don't suggest, and try that as well. Sales reps aren't always as knowledgeable as they should be, especially at Guitar Centre. Pretty much go try a Tele, Strat, LP, and some hollow bodies (both full and Casino styled thin ones), and one of those should get you.

Now if you already have a guitar, or a few, and just want the Tele sound, or body style, and have the money, I'd say go for it. It sounds great, plays great, and has those classic looks.

Sorry for the wordy post, but hope it helps!
Boyko.

I feel the best way to figure out if you want a Tele is to play a few at a local guitar store through an amp you normally play. I believe the original is still the best. You can get some great sounds from it and it can be a lot of fun to play. Good luck.

LOL, I have always wanted one but never bought one. The ones I come across at stores are fun to play.

What would be the best value for a brand new Tele. Seems like the Strat world has some good "bang-for-the-buck" deals, like the JV.

Is there one in the Tele-world?

I have a 2001 American tele it is my prized possesion, its so enjoyable and comfortable to play, the clean tone is near orgasmic, while although im not to big of a fan of my bridge pick up for when i want to crank it up and play some rock i cant bring myself i get my baby custom bored to put a humbucker in, I would stronly suggest tele's to anyone who doesnt play strickly metal, they are amazing pieces of craftmanship, I can sit for hours on clean and never be bored.

Hi:

My bandmate and I have been playing together since 1988.In 88 I was playing an old beat up wore out 76 Tele Deluxe, and he was using an Ibanez Heavy Metal Thing.
In 1989 We went out and bought new Fenders. He got a Strat, I got a Tele. Our styles mesh and we play off each other quite well, so having different guitars made perfect sense.
Once in a while we'd trade guitars but he always told me "I'm NOT a Tele Guy" but he did really like my Tele and said for me it was perfect.

Well 20 years later he has a few more guitars I have 28 now.... I have 4 Tele's now.

Last year we were playing a gig, He grabbed my 2004 Blond Hwy 1 and started playing it. I figured he'd use it for a few songs....Well the few songs wound up being the rest of the night. The next night he asked if he could play my Tele again. I only brought one Tele with me, but the club's only 7 blocks from my house, I took my other guitar I brought with the Tele and ran home dropped it off and grabbed my 89 Tele and my 2007 Baja Tele.
When we both play Strats I have to use a different pickup setting from him. He's a 2 and 4 guy. I use 1,3,and 5 and it sound ok. On Strats our sounds really blend so it sounds like one guitar, so I have to use a setting so we have some seperation.
With the Tele that didn't happen.

Now he's saying...I GOTTA get a Tele...I have loaned him my HWY 1 to use. Right now my 94 MIM Tele and 07 Baja are my main "Working" Tele's. On special occasions I'll bring my 89 but I kinda retired it for sentimental reasons, Don't want to wear in out. Frets have been dressed several times and are getting small

Buying cool guitars is ALWAYS worth it. A Tele is a very nice addition to any music room. They are very forgiving and adaptable to many styles of music. I don't play mine as much as I play my Strat but I'll bet there are tons of player that do the exact opposite.
