I don't think you can do wrong by buying a new MIM Tele. I own several (well, more than several), of both the standard Mexican built Telecasters and then the higher end Mexican builts, the Deluxe Nashvilles. I also own Japanese built and American built Teles so I think I have a good variety of Teles to compare the MIMs against.

For the price, I can't fault my MIM Teles at all. They are very playable and have great sound and tone right out of the box. I have bought a few of my new MIM Teles specifically to modify. Not because there is anything wrong with them, but short of going with a Custom Shop build, I can't find the exact Tele I want, so I'm using the MIM platform as the backbone of the build. I have no doubt they will be smokin' hot when I'm done with them, and I wouldn't spend the extra $$$ to modify them if I didn't believe in the basic strengths of the Mexican models to customize a build around. They may be poor man Custom Shops, but they will be Fenders and have Fender quality throughout.

There are several guys here that have various re-issues of different Mexican Teles, and I'll bet they sing the same praises.

If you have a bit extra coin, take a look at the Deluxe Nashville Tele, some of the Classis Series/Classic Player Teles like the Baja Tele, or the American built Hiway One or new American Special Tele.

Get one. No matter the level of MIM you get, I think you'll be very happy with it!

I have an MIM tele and like it a lot. I especially like the one piece maple neck.
Quite well put together and very versatile.

I have the MIM Classic Series '72 Tele Deluxe. Its the only Tele I have and its only the 3rd Tele I've ever played and I really like her. She has the cool looking, hard rocking bucker type pickups which sound really good to my ears. I think the '72 Deluxe is the perfect in between Strat/LP guitar but you can coax about any tone you want from one amp dependent.

I really like the weight and the fret board radius. The large headstock and maple neck/fret board looks awesome too. In my opinion you should play as many geets as you can before you decide on one.

I have an MIM Tele and it's a great guitar and when it's plugged into a Marshall it's pure tonal bliss.

Why buy a Tele made south of the Grand River when you can buy one from a nation that supports our great nations' "War on Terror" ? A Telecaster like my 2008 made in Indonesia Squier TeleCustom leaves NOTHING to be desired. The Vintage Modified from India is also a good choice, I've found both made in Southeast Asia have SUPERIOR craftsmanship, flawless finishes, pickups oozing "tone", every screw is straight, no sharp fret ends and the tuners will suffice for even the toughest players besides the satin necks are lightning fast. The quality is far and above when compared to the models made in the homeland of Pancho Villa (a terrorist). Best of all they are competitively priced due to the place of their manufacture.

I have a '72 Thinline Tele that is MIM. Great tone, and fun guitar.

I'm completely happy with my MIM Tele. Mine has an ash body with natural finish and tortoise shell pickguard. Love the neck! Very comfortable. I have US guitars (Les Paul and Strat) but my MIM Tele is my favorite guitar to play.

I got myself a Baja Tele last night, I've looked at these for a while now. After playing around with it, through a HRD amp, I pulled the trigger. It's a fantastic guitar, I've been messing with it all day. Unfortunately I fell in love with the HRD  I will hopefully get one in April sometime, the MIM Baja is great value for money. I wouldn't hesitate recommending one to a friend, I love the colour too  Blondes have more fun and all that

Congrats on the guitar. Post picks if you can. Are we talking Hot Rod DeVille or Deluxe? I have the DeVille 212. I had a DeVille 410 years ago. Anyway, I really like my amp. Seems like a lot of folks don't. I'm in the works of putting JJ tubes in mine and having a matching 212 cab built.

I have a 2009 MIM Tele, which i have nothing but satisfaction with. The latest models (08-on) have been improved, with a tinted, satin finished neck, which plays very well. The one thing i would advise from my own experience, is to go to a store like guitar center that has a lot of the same model on hand so you can try some out, to find a jem in the group.

I grabbed the white one mostly because it was the best one i tried in the store. I do really like the white on white a lot, but I have to say, that red you like is mighty sweet!

A decent tele sound like that if you plug it into anything, even the microwave.

Just to 2nd Snowy's advice. The Baja tele is a hell of a guitar. I couldnt be happier with mine. Just pay a bit of attention when picking one, mine wasnt perfect new, but nothing that was a dealbreaker.

Before you go spouting about the war OF terror, you ought to really open your eyes to some facts surrounding it.

The only countries on the axis of evil happen to be nations that aren't indebted to the world bank.

The other thing about Indian labour is that it is largely made up of pre-teens. Your talking about a nation where parents cripple children as toddlers to send them out to beg.

Now I suggest you go play a relic 51 reissue and re-think your previous statement. You may just see how wrong you are politicaly and guitarwise. Theres nothing wrong with any of the guitars you mention, however you dont see Jimmy Vaughn playing em do you? Not that there bad, but because theres a class structure when it comes to purchases. You cant buy a jag for the cost of a mini, the same as you cant buy a Kensington manor for the cost of a 2 bedroom terrace in Leeds.

I am a little on your side though, the Squier range have improved and coloured a bold dividing line very grey. I'd definately consider a classic vibe instead of a Standard, but ultimately it would come down to a play test.
