 What else is new on eBay...its where people can take advantage of newbies, the ignorant, and uninformed....It still won't surprise me if a day or 2 after this auction ends, if the "winner" posts on here wondering if their guitar is real or fake...

Yes, the lack of description and just a few small pictures isn't a good sign either.

That said, I can't see anything that makes me think it's a fake. I've seen some logos that look that that on reissues - especially Closet Classics and Relics.

Yes, the price is low now, but there are eight days left in the auction.

George you know way more than me but the decal and tone knob are not familiar to me. Strange looking. Also no pics of case, COA and no questions!
What model is it supposed to be?

It even says "custom telecaster" on the headstock decal.

In his add he calls it a tele (blank space) caster, no date, says it's new. volume and tone controls are out of alignment, no model name, among other things. I''m just curious about these things. :?

Of course this means nothing as I just got my first Telecaster about a year ago and know very little about different models.

I think the seller just revised the listing and mentions certificates are included...It'll be interesting if they include a photo of them...If its "Custom" I could see someone wanting the volume and tone knobs to be in a different place to help with volume swells, but if thats not the reason, someone really screwed up drilling a blank control plate...

Looks like a '62 Custom Telecaster to me, and judging from the patina on the tuners and string tree and the wear on the body where the player's arm would rub, I'd say it's a Relic (as opposed to Closet Classic or NOS).

I think you're just seeing glare on the control plate at the volume and tone knobs that make them look crooked. If you enlarge the body pic they look okay.

If by tone knob you mean the switch tip, that's a "top hat" switch. I'll see if I can scrounge up a picture of one but you can probably google and find it (yeah, I'm being lazy)

As far as the decal, back in the '50s and '60s, the decals were applied on top of the finish. Lots of the Relic models (and the original vintage gutiars) show a darkening of the decal similar to that on this guitar. Other than the aging of the decal, it seems to match a '62 Custom Reissue.

Compare this:

With this:

Here's a page full of '59 Custom Telecasters - click on each to get enlargements of the headstock decals:

I agree! I didn't say I was bidding on it - just that it didn't look as bad as some of the fakes we see on this forum from time to time. If it's a fake, it's a good looking one in my opinion - not a Squier with a Fender decal, etc.

Go to a reputable store and make the purchase. This looks like a bad deal.

Auction ended with no bidders, however, most of his neutral and negative feedbacks are a result of selling copies/forgeries/fakes.

Interestingly, the oldest negative feedback states,"Item was not a 100% genuine guitar. Not delivered quickly or well packed", in which the seller replies,"GUITAR WAS FENDER READ ITEM DETAILS."

The Seller's Negative feedback Summary:

The Seller's Neutral feedback Summary:

Nice work, bowlfreshener. The seller sounds like a real dirtbag.

Here's the best advice of all:
