I'm not sure what pups come in the HWY 1, but they handle hi-gain well and clean up really nicely. Mine covers a lot of ground.

hmm a highway one then they are 2 Hot Tele® Single-Coil Pickups with Alnico 3 Magnets (Neck & Bridge).

by what i understand the bigger the pu's output the best for cristal cleans and choppy fat overdrive.

i'll try a highway then.

anyone else?

Keef's favorites have a vintage tele pickup in the bridge with a humbucker in the neck. I think Russell's teles are stock (Usually American Deluxes or something along those lines). Highway Ones are nice guitars, I will also recommend giving the Baja Telecaster and the American Deluxe Tele a try (Ignoring price here ^^). Also, may I add the two players you mention have much different ways of getting the fat choppy overdrive you want. Keef usually just runs his guitar straight into a 57 twin or some kind of loud tube amp and cranks it up to 8 or so. Russell on the other hand uses the clean channel on a Fender (It might be a Hot Rod Deluxe, can't remember >_>) and then uses several Boss Overdrives and Distortions to get the desired dirt.
