Hello folks. I recently purchased a Fender Tele and I have a question or two about it. The serial number is Z8104958 and has Made in USA imprinted on the back of headstock. The color is Blizzard Pearl and is in great shape. The question I have is, the printing on the front of the headstock has "Telecaster" written rather largely. I am hoping that I did not purchase a Highway One, but all of the sites I've checked do not have Highway One's coming in the Blizzard Pearl finish. It also has a Samarian Cobalt pickup in the neck pickup for sure, but not certain of the bridge pickup. It came with a non-descript SKB case, which is rather nice. The only other type of Fender I have seen with this particular printing is the 'American Special' series, but I'm not sure if they were out in '08, nor am I sure if they were offered in this color/finish. Can someone please help me with this slight dilemma? Thank you.

Can you post some pictures? Use a free picture hosting site like photobucket or imageshack so we can figure out what you have.

Being the suspicious type, here's one possibility: Your Tele could have been put together from Fender parts - that's not necessarily a bad thing but it's a possibility...Highway 1 neck, American Standard body, swapped pickups, etc. The "non-descript SKB case" goes along with that theory too, but of course I'm just guessing.

Some questions, if you can't post pictures:

What kind of bridge does it have? Three or six saddles? If six-saddle, how many screws attach the bridge to the body? Three or four? And, if six-saddle, are the intonation screws centered or offset?

The neck has 22 frets, right? Are the frets really big (jumbos) or regular size? Tell us about the truss rod adjustment hole in the headstock. Is it a bare hole or is there a "liner" in the hole? Is the liner black plastic or a medium color wood? How many string trees? Is the headstock decal sealed under the factory finish or applied on top?

Have you looked under the pickguard? If so, is the body factory routed for a middle pickup? Does it have straplocks or regular strap buttons?

George, thank you so much for your reply about my Fender Tele. I'll try to answer your questions without doing much undoing of my Tele. It has 22 frets and are jumbo, the truss rod opening has no liner, is open and has a darker, wood type color to it (it looks like my American Standard Strat's). The bridge is six saddle and has the intonation screws off center. It has 3 screws holding it in place to the guitar. Does this maybe help a little?

Yep, good info; thanks.

Sure sounds like a Highway 1 neck to me in that case, based on your description of the logo. I was asking about the number of frets and the truss rod opening in the off chance that it was a Squier or other non-Fender neck with a Fender decal applied. If you have as AS Strat, you've probably been able to compare and see that your neck isn't a "fake".

That's consistent with an American Standard Tele bridge, or at least before they changed to the current stamped steel Strat-style saddles in 2008. I was asking about the bridge because I remember a MIM Standard Telecaster (60th Anniversary, I believe) that came in Blizzard Pearl and while those have a six-saddle bridge that looks similar to the American Standard bridge, it's mounted with 4 screws instead of 3 and the saddle screws are centered. The holes are also in different locations so these bridges aren't interchangeable so therefore we can identify the body from the bridge.

I think you have a Highway 1 neck on an AS body but it could also be a special run for a dealer or something. Fender puts out so many models sometimes it's hard to say for sure. It sounds like it's all genuine Fender parts from your description.
