I am looking to buy my first Tele. Unfortunately I realize my options are limited being that I am left-handed. I was just wondering what countries I should avoid. I know US and Mexican made guitars are nice, but I can only seem to find Standard teles from China? What is the conscensus on Chinese made guitars? Thanks

Avoid Chinese guitars, look for Japanese or Mex made Fenders.

You should be able to get a left handed Telecaster - I'm left handed and live in Australa. I had no problems. I logged onto the Fender page and e-mailed the link (Amercan Standard Left Handed Fender Telecaster) to several music shops asking them for price and availability. Two of them bothered to answer and I got it about two weeks later.

It's a beautiful guitar, completely different to the Les Paul I own (which I bought in 1973)
I don't really compare the two, as far as I'm concerened
I want one of every guitar, hopefully a Strat next.

Having said that I've been playing the Tele exclusively since I bought it
and the tone is to die for.
