[quote="Snowy72"][quote="chromeface"]The first American Deluxes produced in 1998/99 featured the "Nashville" 3-pickup layout plus a 2-way toggle to obtain up to seven tonal combinations. Same wiring scheme as the late 1990s Tele Pluses.

Image

Sorry, to be so green, but ..... just to be sure.

What you are saying is, that someone wired my MIM Deluxe Telecaster to be like the 1998/99 Deluxe Telecaster Plus above but used a push-pull tone switch instead of a toggle switch to keep from doing any modification to the original hardware.

Sweet. Very Sweet!

So, what would the tone combinations be for my three way selector and one Push/Pull switch?

If the middle is just being turned on and off with the switch, I count six combinations not seven.

1. Neck
2. Neck + Middle
3. Neck + Bridge
4. Neck + Bridge + Middle
5. Bridge + Middle
6. Bridge

Great comments. I can see that I came to the right place.

Fender officially dropped the transparent teal finish from the deluxes at the fall of 2003. The latest deluxes produced after 2004 with the transparent teal paint would be Special Factory Runs.

I like very much the "new" Teles with the compound radiused fretboard and the N3 noiseless pickups. The only thing I really dislike was the absence of the MOP dots on maple boards.

It's a quick way to test which pickups are "on".

Plug the guitar into an amp.

Tap the pickups with something metal (I use a small screwdriver) and the you'll hear the tapping through the amp.

By tapping on each pickup in every switch position you can tell which pickups are on in which positions.

Yep, done that myself lots of times.

Here's what got my attention:

if they stick (like a magnet) then the pickup is on.

:?

Oops, I missed the "if they stick (like a magnet)" part.

Obviously metal will stick to the pickup magnets whether the pickup is on or off - heck, it'll stick to a pickup that's not in a guitar, too.

Sorry, Yoshi. I just realized that you are referring to the guitar in the Pics. It is beautiful, but not mine.

Mine looks like this guitar in Candy Apple Red and Maple fretboard: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Delu ... 1146266.gc

Sorry, for the confusion. ''

Chromface what color is that second Deluxe-Teal? Whatever it is it is drop dead gorgeous with the grain coming through.

Hello Everyone,

I just got back home today and went though all of the pickup settings by touching the pickups with a small screwdriver while changing the selector and Push-Pull switches.

Here is what I found:

Switch 1-3 with Push-Pull Switch IN :
1. Neck (Standard Telecaster)
2. Neck + Bridge (Standard Telecaster)
3. Bridge (Standard Telecaster)

Switch 1-3 with Push-Pull OUT (added the middle pickup) :
1. Neck + Middle (New)
2. Neck + Bridge + Middle (New)
3. Bridge + Middle (New)

Just as all of you said, the Push-Pull switch turns on and off the middle pickup. Very nice. What a sweet guitar! I am very happy with this find. The only combination that I didn't get was the "middle" pickup alone. Perhaps, I will spring for the upgrade to a five-way switch one of these days.

Thank you very much for all of your input. It was a real learning experience for me.

I would be very happy to watch a demo video of your twangy baby on YouTube and (if possible) hear some nice MP3 samples.

Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram to set up my guitar like this?

I was recently trying to do this in my Nashville-style tele and installed a Lace Chrome Dome into the middle position, but when I activate the push-pull pot to engage the middle pick-up, I notice the volume drops off and the tone is somewhat thin. I'm suspecting maybe I need to change around the hot and ground leads on the chrome dome but I'm having trouble finding a wiring diagram that uses the push-pull to turn on/off the middle pickup. I wouldn't mind double checking my wiring.

In regards to the original style 3-way toggle switch, I like keeping the classic style switch whenever possible, plus I find it easier and more exact than a 5-way switch when quickly flicking to the other positions. I personally rarely ever use only the middle pickup, so I am willing to give up that option for continued use of the 3-way.

I do not know where to find this setup. However, George gave this link:
http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/ ... 02CPg2.pdf

And sjtalon gave these:
http://www.deaf-eddie.net/
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/

See their posts above for more detail. They will get you started in the right direction.
