Sorry guys if this has been brought up a bunch of times but I did a search and could not find what I was looking for.
I just wanted some opinions on the Road Worn 50's tele. I have played both the Road Worn tele and the American Standard tele and I am torn between the two. I know the road worn is made in Mexico but that's kinda turning me off a bit but I really like the feel. I really like the feel of both the road worn and the American Standard. Money is not really an issue when choosing between these two guitars because I have been saving up for a tele and now is the time. After reading reviews I was all set on buying the American Standard but then I played the road worn and the American Standard the same day, one right after an other and had them side by side and I am now torn. Please give me your advice on the two models.

Thanks

I think it would come down to if you really dig the roadworn look.
Personally I'd get the american standard just because I don't like the feel of the rusty hardware on roadworns.
Plus the American Standard has that nice case.

I'd personally go for the American Standard, simply because it is the standard. To me a road worn isn't worth the same price as a standard, but when Musician's Friend was blowing them out for like 500 bucks at Christmastime, that's a different story ^^

Have you taken a look at the Classic Series Baja Telecaster? That tele gives my 52 AV Hot Rod a run for it's money 8) IMHO it's the best MIM guitar out there at this time.

I own 4 RW Strats and 2 RW Teles.I love these guitars.Obviously if you don't like the idea of a reliced guitar then these are not for you.I personally love the whole vintage aged vibe in a guitar.I love the RW's because of their paper thin nitro lacquer which really creates a nice woody resonance when strummed acoustically. They really have a vintage look and they continuously age really fast because of the thin nitro.....I love that,it really personalises them quickly. On a poly finished guitar,it could take decades to achieve that worn in feel.My RW's play great with those 6105 frets...they are skinny and tall so you need to compensate by raising the action a little higher to avoid fretting out.The pickups sound really good too though I did install Nocaster pickups in one of my Teles and 57/62s in two of my Strats. The Am STDs are fine guitars as well....they have a more modern vibe to them.Do you want modern and refined or raw vintage?

I would get the Am Std. I mentioned in another thread the thing I don`t like about MIM guitars is that they don`t stay in tune like the Stds. and the necks don`t feel as good to me, they also hold their value better.

I never experienced any inferior tuning issues with my Mexican Fenders....they hold their tuning just as well as my U.S. ones.

WOW! All I can say is I absolutely love my new road worn tele. It plays and feels like a dream. I had an american standard tele
and the road worn tele side by side yesterday at my local music shop and I played both a bunch of times and I kept coming back to the blonde 50's road worn telecaster. It just felt better to me and honestly sounded just as good if not better to my ears than the standard. This road worn made in Mexico is a gem of a guitar. My worries are over about what's better.........american or mexican. It comes down to feel and individual taste. I have a American Standard Strat that I also love too. For me it all comes down to feel. I just can't stop playing my new tele. It just feels right. I think I finally the one. Has anybody else had an experience like this.
Thanks for all the advice guys. :D

I don't care where it's made, for me it's always in the feel...and if the Tele from mexico feels better, you'll probably enjoy playing it more. Every guitar has it's own unique signature of character.

RIGHT ON!!! It's all about the feel. I have had many very expensive guitars and the majority of them are gone. I always seem to go back to my 60th anniversary american standard telecaster, it just feels right.
Sold the 52 avri, 52 hotrod and my les paul because they just didn't feel right for one reason or another. I don't like to keep any guitar that just doesn't feel good.

good luck.

Hi there,

I don't own either but am thinking of an American Standard.

Doesn't the RW have a 7.5" fingerboard radius, while the AM has a 9.5"? This makes big difference when string-bending as the smaller radius chokes-out. If teh frets are taller, that's why. And that's why the radius was increased to 9.5" in later models.

For me, whatever the other appeals of the RW, the limitations for string-bending would count it out.

cheers

My Classic Series 72 Tele Custom RI NEVER goes out of tune. My friends all scoff at it for how well it stays even after flights, car and bus journeys etc. And in 8 years has NEVER went out on stage.

+1 My 2009 MIM Standard is amazing. I beat that thing hard when I play and it always stays in tune. I love the way the neck feels, but then again that is a preference thing there.
