Hello, I have a chance to buy a 52 reissue. Comes complete with case and all of the case candy. I see a certificate too. The certificate dates back to 1990 and has a s/n of 11956. My first question - where were they built back then and how do verify that s/n? How important is the certificate and does it add any value? Finally what should the case candy include as I am being told it comes complete case candy. The guiatr is being sold for $1150, is this fair market value?

Thanks for your help

The price might be steep... I would really look that guitar over to make sure it is not a made in japan reissue. Are there any photos of the back of the guitar?

If I wanted an older reissue, I would go back a few more years.

Best deals out there are on recent reissues that are slightly used.

Thanks, what am I looking for at the back of the headstock. I am going to look at it tomorrow. The sellar says that it is American, but can I verify. The s/n on the bridge matches the coa, can fender help?

My only concern is that the Japan and USA instruments from this time period are very similar.

Just make sure its not a made in Japan model being sold as a USA instrument. Everything sounds good so far, but that doesn't mean they didn't swap parts.

A made in Japan reissue will say made in Japan on the back of the neck, just above where the neck joins the body.

You could get a much newer reissue for close to that price. If it was a very early reissue, I would say go for it.

No Made In Japan label. I've been told that this is part of the first 40 year anniversary US '52 re-issue. Is there any difference between a 5, 10, 15, 20 year old 52 resissue. I just found a newer one for $125 less but does not come with a COA. It appears that people like to hang on to these tele's as I cannot find many used ones, and the ones that I do find are all priced at 1k. Is it worth buying a new one for a few hundred more?

Have you play tested this guitar? If it plays good, that is all that matters.

I personally like buying my instruments new (or close to new) as I think to myself, unless it is a collectible, its not worth buying used.

I do not know much about anniversary models, but most likely you will pay a premium for them because of collectors.

I am very happy with my 52 reissue from 2009. It is flawless.

Thanks for your help. I would buy new if I could get my hands on a 20% musicians friend coupon. So do all reissues come with certificates? I will post pics when I close the deal tomorrow.

I looked t it, I played it, I bought it, I LOVE IT!
This not a Custom Shop version. It did however come with a COA. A twenty year old that was virtually unplayed. The original owner passed away a few months ago :( , in his honor I named the tele "Denny" :)
