I had to settle for the walnut Deluxe because I don't look good in red jeans.

If they had the white color 72 Deluxe, I will swop it any day. Check this out.

The Japanese made Telecaster Custom.

Those are awesome looking. The pick guard is really cool.

I had a try at one of those 72 Custom... I find the bridge pickup to be biting than the humbucker on the 72 Deluxe...

Then again, the clarity on the single coil is much more enticing, though I would love to have those big headstock on the 72 Custom.

My initial post in this thread was made the day I got my '72 D and I stated that I thought the pups were a little thin. Well I take that statement back. I stick to my belief that the '72 D is the perfect in between Strat/LP guitar. The reason I recant my thin comment is that the more I play my Tele the better she sounds. A few tweaks on my Hot Rod DeVille 212 and the Tele can almost be molten. The cleans are very full sounding and it can sound down right evil using my DF-7 or my Metal Core pedals! So to the original poster I highly recommend this geet.

neuro182 I like the large headstock too. I could find a place in my arsenal for that Japanese Tele!

Yeah... I wanna try out the 72' Deluxe once my rhythm guitarist gets his hands on one, which is scheduled to come in on Wednesday.

I always love that LP config on the Tele body shape + the big 70's headstock completes my dream guitar. How is the bridge pickup like?

I saw on Fender Japan website that the humbuckers are the Fender Dragsters pickup. Can you shed some light on this?

Honestly bro I don't know what the pups are. I was thinking the Fender web site gave a very generic description (wide range possibly?) of the pups but didn't name them. The neck pup is very full and fluid but the highs are high. It may be due to the dynamics of my amp. Not sure. You can definitely go country or rock. The bridge is rocker for sure. Combined is an awesome tone. P90ish? Both pups are sensitive to picking which is very cool in my book.

The pick-ups are simply known as Wide Range Humbuckers and were created by Seth Lover in the 70's for Fender, the versions offered today are very different from the originals and are made with different magnets, I think the originals were CuNiFe and modern day ones are AlNiCo. Not sure on that though.

If the Japanese plant are offering Dragsters in Wide Range casing I sure as hell don't know about it, the version offered on the Mexican Classic Series guitars are simply the reissue of the WRHB but with different magnets making them sound completely different.

Most guitars come with these linked to 250k pots which makes them muddy when distorted, an upgrade to 500k or 1meg pots will brighten them and clean them up.
