There are thirteen hundred and fifty two guitar pickers in Nashville and just about as many models and types of Telecasters. Is there any easy way to know if a Tele has a tummy cut relief on the back of it. I think all the Deluxe models do but other than that I don't know.

Lots of auction listings have twelve photos of the front of the guitar and none of the back - of it they have one of the back it is from 400 yards down the trail and illuminated by a fire fly so you can't tell.

Any easy way to know if a given Tele has the tummy cut or not?

I could be wrong about this but I don't think it's all the Deluxe models, I think it's all the American Deluxe models. Someone will correct me if that's not right. The AD Tele is an awesome guitar. I have one and would never consider parting with it.

The Aerodyne, Jim Root and Richie Kotzen MIJ Teles have them.

I LOVE the tummy cut. The single best improvement Fender ever made to a a Telecaster.

The '72 Tele Deluxe has a tummy bevel--if you dig humbuckers. 8)

Almost all Made in USA Deluxes (old style and new style) have tummy cuts.

Also, the mid 90s Japanese Deluxes (3 pup guitars) have tummy cuts as well.

Well I think the Tele is just about my favorite ax. This year was the first Fender I bought in the last 8 and I got an American Deluxe and that is why I say I think Fender is making the best guitars they ever had, and the tummy cut is a major improvement as it gives the comfort of the contours of a Strat and when you sit and play you dont get that mark embedded in your forearm.

+1 The Slab is part of being a Tele, if you want the Strat "comfort contour" then go buy a Strat!
