I'm curious what the differences are between American Standard Teles and American Series Teles (which I believe were produced between 2000 and 2007/08)?

I just bought a used Tele and I'm curious how to tell if I have an American Series or American Standard. What are the cosmetic differences, if any.

Pics would also help.

Many thanks.

Different name, same thing. For a few years they called the American Standards the American Series.

I disagree. Evidence shows otherwise. There were many differences between the 80s-90s American Standard and the American Series; pickups, change from TBX to Delta Tone control, strap buttons, headstock logo, staggered tuners on the Am Series, etc, etc.

There are only subtle differences between the American Series and the new American Standard such as; the bridges are different, Fender claims to have put a thinner body finish on the new Standards, and there is a gloss coat on the fretboard of maple board Standards.

Easiest way to tell the diff between an Am Series and new Am Standard is looking at the bridge saddles.

I hope that helps.

Models change over time. Hardware, colors, wiring, etc That's nothing new. Been going on since the beginning. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a different model. Was a time when an American Standard did NOT come with Delta Tone. The addition of Delta Tone did not make it a new model. But whatever. In the absence of an American Standard there was an American Series that was very similar yet with a few differences. If the name hadn't changed it would just be a question of what's the difference between this year American Standard and that year. Funny thing is when the American Standard came back the American Series disappeared.
