So I am torn between either an American Standard Tele or and American Deluxe Tele. The difference in price is about $750 (Which is a LOT for me!). They are both great guitars, I just have a feeling that I'm going to have to treat the Deluxe Tele like glass as it will be one of the most expensive things I've ever purchased.

Can anyone help me out in making a decision? Any Tele experts want to share their take? :)

Hi Gotapenny5,
I have the deluxe, and I couldn't be happier. That said, at the time I bought mine, it was on sale and the difference was only $200.00 (american)
Have you played them both?, that will really tell you what you want to do...
Good Luck

Bill

Apparently the Deluxe is being discontinued so that may sway you. Guitars are meant to be played too so play it. As long as its clean its fine. JMPOV. Best of luck whichever way you go!

I've got both, an 08 Deluxe, and an 09 Standard. Both are fantastic guitars, can't fault either of them. It's a tough decision for you, get out and play both. You will click with one or the other, or more likely both  Good luck bud, let us know what you decide. And remember to post pix

I just checked Fender's site and it definitely looks like the American Deluxe Ash Tele has been discontinued but the regular American Deluxe is still listed.

both are great guitars. Go with the one that bonds with you the most. I bought an 06 american ash deluxe for $900. used at G.C. Its my main axe now. Take your time and shop around, plenty of good deals out there, just need to be at the right, place at the right time. :)

You could do a lot with that extra $750 - an amp, another guitar, a bass, a drum kit, laptop computer, pay down debt, save it, etc.

Its still going but someone made a post last week that Fender customer service said it is GOING to be discontinued. Whether its true, I don't know.

CC you are correct as they are doing away with the Deluxe. Good thing I bought both a Strat and Tele one this year which were the first fenders I bought in the last 8 years. The Tele was just off the chart that I had to get a Strat to.lol

Gotapenny look on ebay and you should find a few stores that should have one being sold as NOS. This is what I did on both of mine. I found the Tele an 07 in SF and I got it for $1,050 dead perfect with warranty and I found an Ash Strat Deluxe which was an 08 in Georgia for $1,100 So I saved over $1,300 on two new guitars.

If you are scared to buy like that which you should not as store usually always have a 7 day return policy you might want to bide your time if you are not in a rush as when they discontinued the VG Strat guitar Center was unloading them for a grand to clear them out and will probably do the same with the Deluxes. But I would hands down go with the Tele Deluxe. I think it is a masterpiece and my mind is just boggled that they are discontinuing it.
