Hello,

I purchased an American Deluxe Telecaster from a Guitar Center in Houston, Texas in 2007. The appearance and tones are matchless in every way. It was my primary axe for about a year until I began experiencing issues. The sound either cuts in/out or no sound whatsoever while on Position 2 (Bridge Pickup in Parallel with Neck Pickup) and Position 3 (Neck Pickup). I don't receive any sound while the S-1 switching is activated. I'm able to hear sound if and only if I press downward on the neck pickup with my finger. I lose sound once I have removed my finger. I continued experiencing this issue even after a well known repair shop Fender referred me to completely rewired the guitar. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
INTENSE

I've had mine a couple of years with no problem, its my main axe and is played constantly. I'd shop around for a good guitar tech, may be a bad connection, or pot that should be able to be replaced or repaired with ease. good luck :)

Ahhhh.......if you press on the bridge pickup and it cuts out, I'm thinking it may not be the S-1 switching.

Obviously, you need to find a 'real' electronics technician, not some guy at the guitar shop that makes more money changing strings.

And I re-read your post, the Fender shop completely rewired it? I don't think so. IF they did, they would have found and fixed the problem.

If you are comfortable doing it, pull the pick guard and do a visual on all the wiring to/from the bridge p/u. While you're at it, do the same for the control plate.

A cold solder joint (one not heated enough to properly melt the solder) will do exactly what you're seeing. But if physical manipulation of the bridge pickup causes the problem, that's where I would look first.

However, and I'm hoping not, you could have bad/corroded/broken wire in the bridge p/u, which would also do what you say.

For your sake, I'm hoping it's just a bad connection.

Get thee to someone who knows how to properly use a soldering iron and multimeter and then report back. I eagerly await your results.

Bump! I've been playing my American Strat and Les Paul but it's time for the Tele to make a comeback. I'm considering swapping the pickups altogether with the Fender wide range humbucker pickups but still undecided unless you guys have a better pickup setup suggestion for a music genre similar to U2. Thank you. :)
