so, Im wondering on installing a mini HB in the neck pos of my '52RI tele.
anyone out there who has done the same?
what do i need to do?
will i need to drill out the neck-PU slot to make room for the mini HB?
any recommendations to what brand i should use? i have looked up Lollar and Seymour Duncan Vintage Mini HB.

thanks

You should be able to remove and/or look under the pickguard on your guitar to see if the neck pickup cavity would need additional routing or drilling.

I have not done this to a Fender, but I installed a mini HB in the neck position of an SX Tele I have, and while the neck PU route was long and wide enough for the mini HB, it was not deep enough. So I ended up having to use my largest drill bit to "route" out some wood underneath where the mini HB mounting screws went. I had not problems doing this to a $100 guitar, but for a Fender, I would not do this without the proper tools, like a router.

Also, you may want to check the parts list between the mini HB 52s and the regular 52s, as there may be some pot and capacitor value differences, if you want it to be exactly like a Hot Rod 52....

There's a 52 Hot Rod out it's been a couple years now, and it comes with a Duncan Mini that sounds fabulous :) You will need to re-drill your 52RI for sure (unless you bought it used and the previous user did the work for you, let's say). Good luck, I think Mini Humbs are great pickups!
