Anyone try or own the Fender American Special Telecaster? If so what do you think of it.

We have them here at my store, and I've been fairly impressed with them. The pickups sound great, and the bodies are balanced well. The bridge is thin, which is where some of the cost comes out of the guitar, and the barrel bridge combined with the cheaper tuners make the tuning a little unstable, but they play great and sound great. They also look really nice, much improved over the looks of the Highway Ones.
Here's some pics and info for the Olympic White Model:

I found the one I played to be very good. I think the new "special" series is a great bang for the buck.

I bought the 3-color sunburst. I was looking (and really want) the '52 RI, but after I played this one, for $799 where I live, I couldn't resist. I'm very happy with it. I did put a set of Rumplestilskins White Ropes in it, very nice! But I have to be honest, the Texas Specials it comes with have a great tone!

I have the 3TSB edition of this as well. It is easily the best guitar I've ever played from an enjoyment perspective. (I've played higher-end guitars and own a guitar that has enormous sentimental value, but none have measured up to the pleasure this guitar has brought me in a very short time.)

If you're a Texas Special lover as am I, and love jumbo frets-- you really can't go wrong with this guitar. I passed on a lot of higher end instruments to get this one and don't regret my decision one bit. Definitely a fun guitar. (Problem is, now I want a couple more teles. Hahaha)

I hope these instruments catch on. They deserve some serious recognition not just because of the "bang for the buck" but for just simply being great guitars on their own merit.

Does the fretboard have the "rolled" edges or is it kind of sharp on the edge like a MIM neck?

The American Special Telecasters are a fixture on my wants list, i have an American Special Strat and love it. If fender ever take my suggestion on board and issue the guitar in a daphne blue finish then i will snap it up immediately

I own the three colour sunburst. Very nice guitar. The fretboard does have the rolled edges and is very comfortable to play. I also like the slightly wider nut width.

Only two colours to choose from, which is unfortunate (likely a cost-control issue...these guitars are well priced), but not a deal-breaker.

Mine came today, I have to say it feels good, the pick ups have got the "edge" I was hoping for and the gloss sunburst looks good. I will need to dress the frets just a tad for my personal taste but overall..........I love it! I ran it through a Laney VC30 and it did well clean and dirty. I feel me some blues coming on.....
I gotta give it an honest thumbs up 8) .
