I love my 2007 Highway One Telecaster for a number of reasons, but I am not completely thrilled with the jumbo frets. I love the feel of the '52 neck (U shape with vintage style frets) and the '62 custom re-issue (C shaped neck and vintage style frets). Since the 2006-2007 Hwy One Tele has the C shaped neck, you can see what the neck would feel like by trying the '62...

I know of a great shop here that can swap the frets for the "vintage style" frets, which are slightly smaller than the medium-jumbos, and much smaller than the jumbos on there now.

It's a financial commitment and a leap of faith. Has anyone attempted this and been happy with the change, or would I be better off parting with this guitar and buying a Tele with the desired frets already on it?

The last luthier I talked to, as I hate mine...said: Its cheaper and better to buy a new neck and have it filed properly in the long run. It's a difficult task and unless you have all the equipment from the files to rollers and cleaners(fret), damageing the neck is almost a certainty....

I looked it up...the RIGHT tools will cost you more than buying a new neck don't you think?

Why not simply have the Frets 'filed' and made the size and 'roundness' you want? It will be cheaper and you'll maintain a 'matched' guitar.

Take it to a Luthier!!! He can custom shape them for you.

Hi:

Had the same problem, Had it converted to a MIM style fret...just a hair bigger than vintage...I tried having them shave and shaped..the results were a disaster...the work was good but becasue the frets were wider than they were tall, made it feel funny to me...I had it refretted.
My Hwy 1 is a 2004 and one of the early ones
