I don't see alot of chatter on here about the MIM '72 Telecaster Deluxe. What do people think about these things? I want to give myself a reward for reaching an intermediate goal on something that's important to me and I was playing one of those recently and thought it complimented my stratocasters quite nicely. The Good? The Bad? The Ugly? appreciated. Thanks

I have the Custom and I absolutely adore it. Pure quality and sounds great. I had a pot change on the humbucker though as can be very muddy so I changed from 250k to 500k and that sorted it out. Its a mod thats cheap and effective. The Wide Range Humbucker Reissues sound lovely and round when cleaned up. Saying that, having a Custom I can only really tell you about the neck pickup.
Anything I've played from the Classic Series has been top notch and its definitely Mexico at their best in terms of build quality, parts and attention to detail.

There is a cross over between the Deluxe and a Thinline now and a version with a trem now also.

Highly recommend!

Happy hunting!

CC

Hi Vonas! Here's my 2006 60th-anniversary special edition:

I can't tell you how much I love this guitar. I've had it since September 2009, and I play it almost to the complete neglect of my Strat and Jazzmaster. The previous owner had upgraded it to 500K pots, which give it a beautiful voice. I like the looks, I like the sound, and I like the fact that it has a tummy bevel on the back that makes it more comfortable than most Telecasters.

If you force me to say something negative, I would say it's a little neck-heavy when you play it standing up with a strap. But I don't care. I love this guitar, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. 8)

*edited to change "40th-anniversary" to "60th-anniversary"

Thanks to both! I'm going to get the walnut one, I believe. Did you do the pot change or have someone do it for you?

I had someone do it for me. I usually do all my other mods but when it comes to a soldering iron I take it to Belfast Guitar Emporium. My hands aren't that steady. lol

Best of luck!

Walnut is a fabulous tonewood,I have the workings of a 65 Strat installed in a walnut body and neck,it not only looks great but produces the most mellow, sustaining tones that I've ever heard from a Strat.

I believe the body of mine is actually alder and its walnut in color. The body is heavy and resonate. The sustain is for days compared to my Strats.

I have a 72 thinline reissue that I just love and have been itching lately to check out the Deluxe. To be honest I have never played or heard one but always thought they were cool.

I have the white deluxe and absolutely love it. I have never played a guitar the felt so good, which is saying a lot considering its MIM. I haven't changed the pots out yet, but they really sound great through my home built fender style amp.. so no complaints. Mine really isn't neck heavy. I did switch the tone caps to .47uf - that did wonders, even on the 250k pots. I can't brag on this guitar enough. It really does everything i could need it to do. I don't play metal.. but I'm sure with the right rig it could handle it alright. -- and not that i could really ever need to replace the Widerange PU's .. but does anybody know any good PU replacements for the deluxe? other than Rio Grande - I'm not a fan of the open coil look.
