First time poster and newcomer to the Tele world.

1) What does the ' FMT ' mean in the FMT HH Telecaster model name ?

2) Is there any reason to avoid the Asian made FMT Teles vs the American made ones ?

I like the looks and contours of this guitar. The FMT HH looks like it has the potential to be a good Jazz machine with appropriate pickups. Any thoughts ?

Thanks....Phil

Here's me with the spalted maple version.

Image

Easily one of the nicer guitars I have, and I have about 20 :) The Seymour Duncan pickups are great. It's not a traditional-sounding tele, more suited for blues/classic rock, but the ability to split the coils makes it very versatile. The quality is top-notch. Very light weight, slim neck and a great neck joint. It gets comments at every gig.

Highly recommended.

Thanks again folks.

I'm not exactly your typical candidate for a Tele player - if there is a 'typical'. I'm a fingerstyle jazz player (amateur) and I'm finding archtops less and less comfortable to play as I get older. I have a Yamaha Tele (MS311) that I've started to gravitate toward and I find I'm liking the smaller body size and the belly cut. And since one of my favorite jazz players (Ed Bickert) gets an awesome jazz tone out of a HB equipped Tele, Ive started to look at real Fender Teles. Hence the curiousity about the FMT type units - contoured body, HB equipped, etc. That guitar likely would not appeal to anyone interested in traditional Tele twang or rock but it could be perfect for my purpose.

Having said all that, I recently discovered Doug Seven and his website. Now that looks like fun and of course that has me looking at more traditional Teles as well. So the stable here may get larger over the next few months.

Up until a year a go, I wouldn't have walked across the room to even look at a Tele. I couldn't imagine a more simple, boring guitar and couldn't understand why anyone would even want one. But I bought the Yamaha MS311 as a cheap way to see if a tele style guitar would work for me - a test drive if you will. I'm not sure what happened but uhh.....well this Tele thing is alright

I should note that the FMT Tele has a Seymour '59 in the neck, which is what most players would recommend for jazz, and it what most put into the neck position for that Keeph Richards sound. You can split the neck pickup by itself, so it cleans up real nice. The bridge is a Pearly Gates Plus, which is a slightly hotter version of the Billy Gibbons version. Overall, I would characterize the sound as akin to a high-end SG, it's not a metal shred machine.

The body has an arched top as well as a belly cut, it is surprisingly comfortable to play. Good luck whatever you do.

Jumping into a fairly old thread, but was on topic...
Recently purchased the FMT HH Custom Tele (Black Cherry if interested). Appears to be early (2003?) Korean made. Pickups are chrome plate with no brand showing. Assuming these are original stock Fender. Question is how great or dramatic is impact with change or upgrade(?) to SDuncan? Thanks for your response.

A picture would be nice. I'm not saying that I would have your answer, but a picture would still be nice.
Oh, and I applaud you for being so efficient by using a 5 year old thread. I always like when this happens because guys will start posting answers to the original poster without noticing the dates.
My only Tele has two P90's. A Tele with buckers sounds like a good idea.

Resurrecting this thread to ask about opinions on what the best finish/color option is for the FMT HH tele. I am definitely buying this tele, just wanted to hear which color option you think works best (for you) and for this guitar specifically. Thanks for your feedback!

Hi, newbie to this forum. Glad to find this older post to get some experienced feedback. Since I'm tone deaf, have no rhythm, and have no natural talent I'm not a very good guitarist but I love messing around at home with an affordable Squire Strat. It is therapeutic for me (disabled vet with head and hearing problems).
I found a used Tele FMT HH in black cherry for sale, looks like a beauty but haven't laid hands on yet. It's owned by a guy who is obviously quite good (I'm guessing) due to the other stuff he has for sale.
I realize it is a different beast with its HH setup. I always wanted a Les Paul but never have found one I could afford. This Tele and case is listed at $550 or best reasonable offer. I may have some trade bait for the guy. What is a fair price for both of us? I have a pic saved but don't see how to include it here, sorry. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
