Hi tele forum guys,

I just bough a tele body from ebay, and am planning on building it into my ideal guitar - bigsby, custom warmoth neck, humbucker in the neck that I can coil tap, etc. One big question - the body does not have holes drilled for the neck, so if I buy a neck from warmoth, should I get it drilled, or undrilled?

If I get it drilled, can I use a neck plate as a template for drilling the holes in the body?

Thanks

You can buy a pre-drilled neck just fine. Have fun!

I would not get a predrilled neck if the body is not drilled. You probalbly won't get the holes line up perfect and cause uneven pressure on the screws. you can use a spring clamp to hold the neckand neck plate on the body then drill a pilot hole thru the body and into the neck. drill the body to the screw size then attach the neck with the one screw. I used fishing line on the e-strings to line the neck up square to the bridge then drill the rest of the pilot holes using the neck plate as a guide. remove the neck finish the body drilling then reattach the neck. you don't need much of a pilot hole in the neck. Don't go to Deep. Remember to apply a little wax to the screws before you install them (a candle will do)

Thanks - so I guess I can go either way. I guess if I'm going to have to set up a drill press for the body anyway, not that big a deal for the neck too.
