Let me clarify: you DO need a new bridge plate if you're going to the 3-barrel setup. But it bolts right on without additional drilling.

You just take off your MIM Standard Tele bridge, unscrew the pickup, mount the pickup to the vintage style bridge plate, and screw the vintage style bridge plate into the guitar body, using the same screws and holes that are already there.

You need to install the 3 saddles in the vintage style bridge plate - either before or after you switch - and then install strings and set up your action and intonation.

You'll need one phillips screwdriver, one flat screwdriver or allen wrench to adjust the saddles (depending on what kind of saddles you use), and a new pack of strings. You'll also need a tuner or a good ear to set intonation.
