There are several Standard colors [candy cola w/ rosewood, blizzard pearl w/rosewood, or even the clear ash w/rosewood and probably an added tortoise pickguard would be sweet] that I like way better than any of the deluxe colors and of course the standard is $600 cheaper. Sadly, I do want the noiseless pups and S-1 switching system of the Deluxe which I can convert myself for about $250.

Question: Has anyone done this conversion and were you satisfied in the end? Or did you wish in hindsight you would have just coughed up the extra $$ and gotten the Deluxe even if you didn't get "your color"?

thanks,

I too was faced with the situation you're in but I just bided my time until I found an '07 NOS American Deluxe Ash Tele for $1200.

I recently picked up a 07 Deluxe, NOS with locking tuners and a electro-socket switch craft input jack. Got it off ebay. Delivered to my door for under $1100,00 CDN. There's some good deals out there if you look around. Good Luck..

I'd shop around. I got a 2006 deluxe ash tele, butterscotch, black pickguard, for $900.00 last year at a Guitar center. Unfortunitly missed out on a 50th anniv. 2004 deluxe, tobaccoburst strat for the same price 2 months ago, didn't have the cash. Gone two days later. :( I was on the fence, about trading my american standard.

Sadly, the problem really isn't money like it normally is. I could actually afford the Deluxe, just don't like any of the just 3 or 4 colors available right now. So, I was considering converting a standard for about $250 parts plus my labor. But, that also voids the warranty too, so you have to consider that . . .

I have heard a rumor some new Deluxe colors may come out in April. Anyone know more about that?
