I have a American Dluxe Tele. 2007. I put a chrome pick gaurd on it. And now the neck pickup won't work. I remove the pick gaurd it works just fine, I leave the pick gaurd loose and the pickup works, when I apply pressure to the pick gaurd the pickup quits working? Is there a gasket or some thing that goes between the body and the pick gaurd? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you..

Hmm..from what you're describing, it seems that the pickup cover is shorting out on the pickguard. I can't say I've ever heard of that but that's the behavior you're encountering.

One thing you can try is to put some electrical tape around the sides of the pickups and try the pickguard again. That will at least verify that it is shorting out (on the pickguard) and that isolating the two from each other fixes the problem.

Is the pickguard in question a genuine Fender and is the pickup as well?

Tape around the pickup didn't work. But tape between the switch plate and the pick gaurd worked. And now I have static every time I touch the pick gaurd, only when the switch is in the neck position. The B.S we go through to make are guitars look cool?

Well, least you were able to eliminate one possible solution and narrow down the problem.

That said, based upon information found on a from a manufacturer that sells only metal pickguards, grounding the pickguard to some other ground point in the guitar should fix the static problem.

it is definitely a grounding issue. hence when you touch it the hum stops because you ground it. maybe grounding the pickup itself? im not sure.

The pickup should be grounded already because the problem does not occur with the previous plastic pickguard.

Grounding the pickguard is the next logical step in resolving this issue.

The pick up is grounded to the tone pot. The tone pot should be grounded to the control plate. So when the pick gaurd comes in contact with the control plate it should be grounded? The buzz gets louder when I touch the pick gaurd. When I snipe the ground between the pick up and the tone pot the pick up works just fine. But the buzz is still there, weather the pick gaurd is in contact with the control plate or not? I was told by the tech. at the shop I deal with its because the SCN pick ups are grounded. So the pick gaurd won't work on the Deluxe but it'll work on a Standard because the pick ups aren't grounded? I don't know if that's correct or not, but I got tired of dinking with it and I didn't want to pay a tech. to put a pick gaurd on my guitar, so I returned it. Thank you for the input I appreciate it. Maybe i'll buy a chrome, plastic pick gaurd, I really liked the look of the chrome pick gaurd..E.B.
