Hi everyone!
I'm going to buy a japan tele, but haven't dealt with japan guitars yet. So I'm asking you to help me with identifying. I unclude few pics of this guitar. It's claimed as 1983 guitar. And so the question: whether the number on brige is the serial number?
Thanks in advance for your answers!

JohnWhiskey,

Attached is an article on Japanese serial numbers. Scroll down to Japanese Serial Numbers.

At first glance you may have an '85.

Thanks for your help!
So this guitar has serial number on bridge, did I understand it right?
There's no info about japanese guitars with serial number on brige in this article.

Check out this link. look close to the bottom of the page. I believe your serial number should be at the base of the neck or the peg head. I'm no expert for sure but maybe you can look through this link and find some good info. Good luck!

OK, one thing we know is that is it not a 1983, because it does not have a JV serial number.

The A prefixed number on the bridge is also NOT actually a serial number, but it does give some indication of the age of the guitar, which is likely to be 1985 - 1987.

The only way to tell the age for sure on these guitars is to check and see if there is a date written on the heel of the neck.

The bottom line however is that whether it is actually 1985, 1986 or 1987, it doesn't really make much difference to the value of the guitar, so precise dating at this point isn't really critical.

Thanks for answer.
I saw few telecasters with number on brige(not same with this), also prefixed 'A'. But that telecasters had serial# and they were 90's.
So should I worry about the point that there is no serial number, or is it normal for old japan teles?
I'm thinking of buying this guitar, so the question is: to buy or not to buy?

Well if the price is right for you and you like the guitar, I'd say buy it. Not having a serial number on a mid 80s MIJ Tele is normal and has no effect on price.
