uh, he does want to play. If I were making the decision he'd be taking piano lessons, he says no way to that. I just don't think a 7 year old can learn to play on a Telecaster that's as big as he is. My brother wasn't thinking when he bought the Tele for him. Awesome as it is, not appropriate for a starter. Even my brother agrees to this now that he sees how large it is in my son's hands. And believe me since reading all the info on it and hearing from all of you , I wish like anything I could just hold on to it for later in his life. I think a lot of my posts are getting lost in translation. But for some reason I keep coming back for more??? :?

Hey Daisy!

We try. Tele players just aren't the smartest, most personable guys on the block!

I think your son would be a prime candidate for the 3/4 scale Squier Strat. It's a great guitar for the money and I think he'd be well on his way with one. Get him a little 10 - 15 watt practice amp and he'd be good to go for a long time.

Find a good instructor that works with younger players and you'll be money ahead. With some lessons he'll actually be able to get some real music out of the guitar and he'll be a lot happier and more motivated.

I have several friends who have started their sons on the 3/4 Squier and it's worked for every one of them.

Now, about the Tele... I'm just the right size for a guitar like that, so if your brother would like to give it to me...

Please try to put up with us, we really are on your side!

RickyD

Well, total beginner here. Just a mom who got a "deal" at Best Buy. Yeah, dont laugh yet. Thought I might get some answers here. Okay... USA made 52 Tele Reissue. Looks good, just some scratching on pick guard. But the more I look at the neck and the more I look at the stock photo of the neck on Fender.com. Im starting to think it's been switched. There is a Fender decal on the head of neck, but it doesn't say Telecaster. It should, right??...and there is some obvious rubbing under the Fender decal as if something were removed :( Are there supposed to be any serial numbers other than the patent number? Is there any other way I can tell if this neck has been swapped? Want to get my money back if they are pulling a fast one on me. Thanks. Happy 2010!

Original post said "Just a mom who got a "deal" at Best Buy." and seemed real interested in learning if there was something wrong about it. No mention of ebay..... but, later post said your brother gave the guitar to your son for Christmas and it was discovered that the guitar was "already listed for sale on ebay" including the complete data facts with detailed information.. That to me looked like you were "fishing" for answers... Not for yourself but for potential ebay buyers...

So... If the guitar was gift as you have said.. then the money earned off the ebay sale is for your son... right?

So... If you as a mom got a deal at Best Buy.. and later deceided that it was too much for your son... then you just want to recop you loss and perhaps make a profit... and pocket the money yourself... right?

So... If your brother bought this guitar for your son, he is rich or has no knowledge of value on this high-end instrument... Now he is out, your son is out, and you are in with a possible profit.

History of this instrument can be tracked by serial number and internal numbers of which have not been completely disclosed.

Since you are selling one of the greatest intruments Fender has ever produced (not saving it for your son) to have and to hold as a player or even an investment.. I still smell a fish

Oh Solitaire, come on man. What is this really about? You are really bumming me out. Money isn't the issue. It's a circumstance that I am dealing with. It's not about fooling anyone, it's not about pocketing money from my kids' present. It's not about a rich Uncle who's a moron. Maybe you want me to be an $@! ,but really, I'm not. It seems no matter what I do , it's wrong. Believe me it all makes sense. It's okay if you think it's fishy, it's good to be cynical in this world. I wish ya all the best man and happy days for 2010!

Com'on guys, give the lady a break. Everything she says and everything in her eBay listing adds up. Y'know, once in a while people do tell the truth and they're not looking to rip someone off.

Thank you Matt B. I could use a break once in a while. I am in pursuit of the 3/4 Squire and amp that was recommended. I hope I don't offend anyone when I try to find one on eBay. My son is so ready to start since mom has been in a tizzy over the Telecaster. It's pretty much all we've been talking about. He spent the day writing songs yesterday with his sister. Maybe I'll have the next White Stripes...minus the weird. Onward and Upward..... :)

Hey Daisy,

You'll be able to find the 3/4 Squier and the amp on ebay. Just be real careful w/ the guitar. There will be a lot of factory seconds and repaired 3/4 Squiers. Holding out for a brand new one is probably not a bad idea. As an ebay buyer and seller you know the pitfalls on what to watch for in a seller.

Good luck! I hope you can get your son going quickly with the right gear.

Very strange, because the neck looks right but the decal should have 'Telecaster' included under the Fender logo.I own 2 of these models and am very familiar with them.Maybe it was removed in the store because someone scratched it so they figured they could remove it all off(???).The logo is supposed to be applied over the lacquer(as it was in 1952)so maybe it got damaged in the store(???).Fender made the Nocaster in 1951 which was a Tele with the name clipped off for a while...it looks exactly like yours.Teles were originally called Broadcasters but Gretch own the rights to that name and threatened with a lawsuit.Fender had to find a new name but in the meantime cleared the Broadcaster decal inventory by clipping off the name.As for your guitar,I doubt Fender would let that pass quality control. If it really bothers you,you can find replica decals online.
