Don't waste your time answering this post..... This guitar is actually listed on ebay!

How can it be a Best Buy purchase when it's being sold on ebay by who-ever??

There's also a thread on this guitar on TDPRI

BTW, between the original post and the eBay listing, everything adds up to me. The stories match and Best Buy does sell guitars.

I believe what's going on is the mother purchased it as a gift at Best Buy and the son didn't want it. When she couldn't get her money back (which seems a little odd but I'll let that slide for now) she put it on eBay. This led to a potential buyer asking about the headstock decal issue and in turn led the mother here.

I can't see a BB employee removing the "Telecaster" part of the logo which leads me to believe that it happened after the guitar was purchased. The guitar can't be that old so it should have "Telecaster" on the headstock.

does the pickup selector switch look weird to anyone else?, it looks like a strat style, its not the 2 telecaster selector heads im familiar with, (the tophat and the round one)

Post a picture of your bridge tray.

On the 52RI's, the serial appears just like in did in 1952, 5 digits stamped into the 3 saddle bridge tray (or some call it a plate, some of these also came with a 6 saddle bridge tray with no serial stamp).

Looks good to me, but you can confirm by examining the bridge plate.

If it's from ebay, someone may have tried to make it look like a more expensive "no-caster" by scratching off "Telecaster" from the decal).

Wow, crucified on Fender. My brother gave this guitar to my son, my son's 7!!!! I am not keeping it. He wants to play drums too and says he wants to be the ice cream man when he grows up. I will get him a guitar, but certainly not this one. I placed it on E-bay because first of all I am an E-bay seller and that's what I do. If I return it to BB, I will get merch credit. If those people sold my brother a guitar thats not genuine, I will give it back to him and make sure he gets his $ back. I dont want to sell a phony guitar on E-bay...I am trying to do the RIGHT thing here. What doesn't add up? :(

Selling your son's guitar (a once in a life time super guitar) how mean can you get.

Well I guess it's all about the money! Your brother is the one who should have the satisfaction of ownership~

Although this is an informative form of friendly music lovers who share their knowledge..... I just can't help but smell a fish in here somewhere... Appears to me to be just a fast turnover of the guitar for pure profit...

Sorry but that's MY opnion..

Gee Whiz- Thought I was going to find a bit of camaraderie in this forum, not personal attacks. I'd move mountains for my son. You don't know me. I never thought a bunch of dudes would be so catty. I'm trying to do the best I can. I'm an RN who chooses to stay home with my children. YES, I try to make money on eBay, but not at other's expense. Unfortunately I am not in the financial situation to LET my son keep this guitar and wait to see if he's still interested when it's finally not bigger than he is, I wish I could. Last you'll hear from me. Happy New Year.

In this lady's defense, this guitar isn't really the best choice to give to a 7 yr old who doesn't even play. I can be as skeptical as anyone, perhaps even more so because I sold guitars for 12 yrs, but I don't see anything fishy about this.

This is a pretty sly bunch of enthusiasts here, Daisy and they have a genuine love of sniffing out scams because scams are plentiful out there and we don't like hearing about one of our own getting ripped off. Don't take the close scrutiny personally but be just aware that it is part of the experience here. This is the nature of pretty much all online guitar culture.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Understood BMW.... The more I think about it I do understand. I knew stepping into this forum was a challenge, that's why I purposely didn't mention the e-bay sell that first post. Thought you all might think I was trying to pimp it here, and that would be a conflict of interest. Once again, thanks for the help. Anyone want to suggest a good starter electric for a 7 year old? Saw the 3/4 Squire, that's the obvious choice I guess, but any other thoughts?

Daisy, After reading all of your posts and speaking from experience I would hold off on buying him a guitar or even any other instrument. I was sent to piano lessons when I was 6. (older sister was good at piano) Then violin when I was 8 because it was free in school. Likewise for coronet when I was 11. I really hated them because when my friends were out playing I had to practice. I wanted to play guitar but because my older brother didn't do anything with his, they wouldn't get me one. My grandma got me a cheapie from Osco Drug and I played it for hours every day. I was 13 The rest is history

Bottomline Let him decide when, if, and what he wants to play. Both you and him will be happier.

i can see where you are coming from. its just not fun to play a musical instrument when it is kinda forced upon you. when i was little my parents made me take piano lessons, i didn't enjoy because i felt it was more like a chore than anything else. but when I decided to play guitar i loved it because it was my decision and i dont feel it was something my parents made me do. in the end let your son decide if he wants to play or not because if you make him play he won't enjoy it.
