So here's a question for everyone... I was wondering how all you other Fender guys feel about G&L. Obviously we all love our Tele's and Strat's but anyone rocking an ASAT or Legacy? Leo sold Fender and started up a new factory 20 miles down the road with George Fullerton, hence G & L. Now, I've got a sweet tele with some custom shop 54' nocaster pickups in it and I love it, but I'll be honest, I love jammin on my U.S.A made Legacy too, better than most strats I've played on. What do you guys (and any gals) out there think?

i think G&L is just as much a fender instrument as a Fender is an instrument. because after all Mr.leo Fender did make Fender and G&L.

If Fender ever stopped making Tele's, G&L's ASAT would do just fine for me. But as it stands I stick with my Fender.

I think G&L is a much better guitar than MusicMan a company that Leo started an sold after Fender. But I don't think Leo and George were as much hands on as they were in their early days at Fender. I would easily take a G&L over a later CBS Fender But the New Fender Company is making some very fine guitars and amps. I only wished G&L had made a new guitar instead of Tele and Strats

I have a lot of respect for the G&L instruments, but don't feel like paying the steep price tag. I'm still looking for a nice USA built Legacy and ASAT at the right price.

The hunt is 1/2 the fun :)

There are lots of people who contend that G&Ls are better guitars than Fenders, but I own a ASAT and of course many Fender USA STDs and frankly, I don't really see ANY significat difference in build quality, playability or sound performance between the comparable models.

All I know is that the G&L is slightly more expensive, so on that basis my vote still goes for Fenders.

ASAT = G&L's take on the Telecaster

I had a G&L Legacy for a few years, but eventually traded it in for a Fender Telecaster.

I think I'd like a G&L Legacy in CAR with a maple neck. Haven't checked them out in quite a while. Do they still have the 3-bolt neck joint? I hope not. Why would Leo go back to 3 bolts? Couldn't have been cost control.

The 3-bolt was a CBS Fender design. I hate to say it but at their age George and Leo were the namesakes for the company.

I am pretty sure that the 3 Bolt design was actually Leo's idea. I have seen lengthy discussions about 3 bolt necks on other forums and the consensus is that Leo thought it was a good idea.

And by the way, it also happens to work fine on most guitars. My 1973 Tele Deluxe sounds awesome and has rock solid tuning....

I like them both--get whatever you can find that you like & can afford--whether Fender or G&L.

If such things matter to you, (They don't to me)--G&L's don't have as a good a re-sale value as Fenders.

And Fenders are easier to find around here.

But I'd be okay with either.

I own both, and love both. My ASAT Special is like an exaggerated Telecaster. The build quality of mine is a couple notches above US-made Fenders, but it was a custom order from the dealer, and made pretty much by hand.

That's not to say Fenders aren't quality instruments. Just saying you can tell the difference between my American Series TEle & my ASAT Special. Thing is, the American Series has more of a "classic" Tele sound when the two are compared sonically.
