My vote for the best MIM model would have to be the Nashville Power Tele...

Well guys, it's with heavy heart I have to say I won't be joining the MIM owners club :( I went in to find out about the Baja I ordered today, and was told the official order wouldn't go through until Thursday  My heart sank, until I saw an American Standard Tele hanging up on the store wall. I got her down and plugged her into a marshall stack    Myyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ohhhhhhhh my what an axe, woo hoo  I bought her there and then, a fantastic guitar. She's sunburst, and a fine addition to my ever growing Fender family. The cam battery is on charge, I'll post pix later this evening. I am in Tele heaven boys, I kid you not!

This is my MIM Telecaster; originally it had a coil-tapped humbucker in the neck position and a 5-way switch. I experimented with different electronic setups (for a while, it was wired like a 50s Esquire and I took out the neck pickup entirely, replacing the pickguard to a blank black one). Eventually, I settled upon what I have now...

...Mighty Mite P90 in the neck position, stock (flat-pole-piece) Telecaster bridge pickup, 4-way Tele switching and a Fender "No-Load" tone pot...

Sounds great, and I have less than $400 in the thing (mods included!).

Well of course the new AM STD Teles are also unbelievably good...so this comes as no surprise.

A short story. My local guitar shop had been wanting to become a Fender dealer for as long as I have been going there. Finally, a few months ago, they managed to be appointed as a dealer. Well, they have already sold a lot of Fender stuff, so the demand was obviously there. A funny thing though, one of the sales guys maintains that the MIM std Tele they have in stock is the best guitar in the shop (although for some strange reason, it hasn't been sold as yet). :?

I think that the bottom line is that its probably pretty difficult to get a "bad" guitar out of ANY Fender manufacturing facility nowadays due to more consistent quality control and more efficient manufacturing techniques. 8)

Coming from you Ajay, I take your comments as a HUGE endorsement. If anyone knows the Fender Telecaster, it's you my friend. I had no quams about buying a MIM guitar, I've had a few in the past. I was honestly looking forward to the Baja, but like your place there, my place has recently become an official Fender dealer. This baby had just arrived, along with a few Strats. From the moment I held her, I knew she was mine. And as I said above, when I plugged her in..... wowsa!!! Your last comment is spot on imho, not many bad guitars leaves a Fender factory. I still intend getting the Baja, I'll just have to wait for a month or two

Here's mine:

It's a 2001 Classic Series 60's. The pickguard was changed to a 1-ply white, 5-screws from a Japanese reissue Tele (not a perfect fit, by the way), and the bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster.

My Tele, 2004 has a sticker on the back of the headstock that says "Special Edition". I think it was from a run of guitars that were made for Guitar Center that were "special" colors. I forget what the color is called.Image
