Wondering if anyone has insight into any resale values dropping lately. I have been trying to sale my absolutely beautiful '93 Caribbean Mist American Tele, but cannot get the first bid at $775. Has this bad economy depressed the price for guitars? I am interest in anyone's thoughts.

Thanks,
SLS

Yes, the state of the US economy has depressed the prices of some guitars, as has the reduction in street price for new guitars.

When you can buy a brand new Std Tele for just over a grand (as you could recently), it makes non-vintage guitars less valuable.

Thank you for your response, Ajay Tele. A '93 Tele has appointments that aren't available on an American Std. of current year. It looks like I'll just have to hold on to the guitar, since it would be a disgrace to sell it to scavengers. People who are hard up have to sell for a song. Now is a great time to sell your gold, but not your guitars.

I can understand the price you are asking, as I don't think it is unreasonable, but the economy has been brutal, and guitars are a luxury item for most people.

People also like to bid, and I've had better luck starting auctions at low price and hoping to get what I'm after. Sometime you have to just take the hit on the price, if you are desperate for cash.

I'm sorry, I am not aware that the 93 has features that would make it better than the new American Standards. I have a range of USA Teles and frankly, the new ones are significantly better than the older ones IMHO.

What features do you consdier better in the 93?

SeanGephardt - I agree with you. I think it's best that I keep this honey. It is the best tele that I've ever played. I'll just have to find another way to raise funds.

Ajay Tele - The main things that I like better about my tele than the new American Standards are the stainless steel locking tuners and the pearloid pickguard. My guitar also has a flatter (thinner) "U" neck profile that I enjoy. The bridge on my tele also has the deluxe type polished brass saddles. The reason I say that these appointments might be better, is that locking tuners and polished brass saddles are features usually reserved for Deluxe models.

Some people will undoubtedly enjoy the looks and features of the Highway 1 models more than a gaudy Standard or Deluxe Telecaster. Everyone is allowed their own tastes.

Yep it certiainly sounds like you should keep it if you don't want to lose too much money.

I'm interested, where those extras (locking tuners, pearloid pickguard and polished brass saddles standard or are they mods you have done to improve your guitar? I hadn't seen a Standard USA tele come with those features before, so I might be learning something new which is always appreciated.

Yes, everyone has their own tastes and vive la difference. 8)

My comments were based on comparing what I thought a 93 USA Std Tele would comprise, with the current USA Std Model (seeing as there was no specific info at that stage of the discussion...)

Having said that, the 2008+ USA Std Teles ARE quite wonderful and if you haven't played one, I'd highly recommend it. The small detail upgrades made and the overall high quality of manufacture really add up to a better overall package than the earlier USA Stds in my experience.
