Looks to me like a 2002-ish American Series SH Telecaster.

2002 (approx.) based on Z2 serial number

SH = single coil pickup in the bridge, humbucker in the neck position

Fender made the SH and HH (two humbuckers) Teles without pickguards for a year or two in this decade.

"American Series" is the equivalent of what is currently called the American Standard.

Well actually, the designation was "HS" not "SH", but otherwise completely correct.

Here's another version of the breed....

There was also an HH Tele at the same time...

(The Tort pickguard is an aftermarket one)

I've only owned strats for the last 40 years but I finally bought my first MIA Standard Tele last year and can hardly put it down. I guess it's just the newness that has me captivated. It really has some great tones plugged into my 57 twin tweed ri that are different (but not necessarily better) than my strats! Sweet! 8)

Yeah... about a million, plus or minus a few... I don't think anybody has more Tele's than you!

Yeah, Ajay's the man when it comes to Telecasters. He's right up there with the other legends of internet Telecaster lore such as Ole Fuzzy.

As for me, I'm just a guy who has always collected Fender Frontline catalogs and many of them have spent significant time in my...um..."reading room" over the years. :D

Thanks for the HS correction, Ajay. I was thinking that since a Strat with a humbucker in the bridge is called HSS, the naming of pickups must read from left to right, so that's why I called it a SH Tele.

No worries George! And you logic does make sense of course.

I think it's probably HS because Teles typically have the first HB at the neck, a la the original '72 Tele Custom. Or maybe because H is before S in the alphabet???
