Hi Everyone,

As a proud Am Std Strat owner who is far to terrified of potential accident related injuries befalling my beloved axe, I am, with the proceeds of my 40th birthday off to purchase a MIM Tele for gigging in the rougher locations so should anything bad happen to my axe, it wont be happening to my beloved Sienna Burst (and financially irreplaceable) Strat.

As a never before owner of a Tele, which characeteristics am I looking for in a good Tele and what manufacturing details should I watch for when buying a MIM to ensure I don't buy a Lemon or something that may have slipped QC?

Cheers and all.

With the improvements at the Mexico plant the MIM Std's are VERY nice these days and I haven't been in the company of a lemon yet. Simply try before you buy!

I do recommend the Classic Series from Mexico. These are the top of their lines and I swear by my 72 Custom RI. Great quality for the price.

Best of luck!

CC

Hey UK,

What CC said is true "Try before you buy" I don't think you will have any quality issues, but I do think once you play the Tele's you will be hooked!

Good Luck

Bill

Not to worry about MIM Fenders...My experience w/ them is that they are well made, reasonably priced, & play well. I have a Deluxe Players Strat, and a Deluxe series Nashville Telecaster w/a slightly tinted maple neck that has become my "Go-To" guitar because it sounds & plays so well. It's quite versatile,(3 single-coil Tex-Mex p/u's arranged just like a Strat w/ a 5-way switch) 1vol/1 tone, simple, & works as advertised. Try one against some others, see what you think. jtmurphyabn

Hey UK,
Welcome to the forum. CC is right on...his advice is always great. I own a 2009 MIM Tele...brown burst all stock no mods to it. Fantastic guitar. You can't go wrong with one. You will see that the quality and craftsman ship are right on!! Hope this helps and please post some pics when you get your new baby!!

Pass up the Standards and go straight to the Classic Series. The Standards are nice but the Classics are MIM's top flight models. As always, play before you buy.

I like maple fretboards on my Tele's mainly for asthetic reasons.

Yeah, I like the look of the maple neck, too. Any "tone issues",(ie: too 'bright,' or 'trebley' are easily dealt with). 'Dont really notice it, myself...The only change I might consider would be a Texas Special p/u in the bridge, just for grins. Regardless, SHE b FINE!!

Jedi,

I think you'll be happy with any of the MIM Tele series. Like the boys say, "Try before you buy." I have MIM, MIA and CIJ Tele's and they are all sweet guitars and fantastic deals in their respective price range.

You might want to try a Deluxe Nashville Tele or a Deluxe Nashville Power Tele. I have both, and they may give you a bit more flexibility with you coming from the Strat world. They are top of the line Mexican guitars. Very nice. Also, like CC said, try the Classic Series Thinlines, they too are very sweet guit's.

If you're just needing the basic Tele, don't even hesitate. The 2009 MIM Standard Tele's are a great guitar. You'll be very happy with one in it's stock configuration and later, if you really feel the need, it's a great guitar to mod.

Let us know what you get. And welcome to the Tele!

I also own a 2009 MIM Tele, went in the store ready to spend more than twice as much on an American and ended up playing the Standard. Fantastic guitars. If there's one thing I'd recommend it's change the pickups...didn't even realize how dull they were till I put something quality in them. Now it's a true beast.

I have two MIM thinlines, both nice, very good quality and they get played quite a bit. I also had a stock MIM Tele and no issues with that either -- helped out a coworker looking for a Christmas present last year with that one. The idea: well made, won't break the bank.

I also have a couple of AmStd and for basis of comparison, you will not go wrong with an MIM, especially given your goal.

I love the look of this Tele. I asked about it here a couple weeks ago. I'm looking for an inexpensive tele for modern rock tones. I was told that this ash body with those pickups will not do the trick for me.... However I love the finish!! Would a pickup change get me some modern rock tones? Thanks

I wouldn't take other people's word on if it's good for your sound. You need to play one. Are you looking for a Tele with different pickups? You might consider this one and upgrade the pickups.

Haaa.. I guess my only question is....... Are these Ash bodys fit for modern rock tones? I have no problem with switching out the pups. Thanks
