I have been thinking lately if I should put the stock pickup back into the bridge position of my '94 MIA Tele. Right now it has a Seymour Duncan Little '59 stacked humbucker in it. I do really like the sound of that pickup, but its been years since I've heard what my Tele originally sounded like. Not sure what to do.

If you've got some time, like messing with guitars, and are handy with a soldering iron, why not?

One option is to buy a new control plate, switch, pots, and caps and keep a pre-wired setup for humbuckers (I assume you're using 500K pots with the Little '59) and another with 250K pots for single coils. By doing this, you'll be able to swap out pickups with less soldering each time.

Another option would be to install a coil tap switch or push-pull pot so you can get a single-coil tone out of your '59. It won't sound just like your original Tele pickup but it might be close enough and it would give your Tele another sound.

Wiring diagram for a push-pull to split your '59:

I say, go for it. Probably you will be amazed with the clarity you were missing with the humbucker. Either that or you gonna find it too bright and harsh :D

I'm just a stickler for stock Teles,it just seems to me that if it isn't stock it isn't a Tele.Only stock pups will do in my world.

I usually buy a less expensive model and upgrade it with different pups and switches. I have never added a humbucker to a tele that didn't have one. I have always stayed true by keep the single coils. That said, I would really like to modify or make from parts, a tele with TV Jones Pups and double tone and volume pots ala Gibson ES335. I have a squier in that configuration and it does sound different, but I don't enjoy playing it as much as my other teles. It is signed so it stays unplayed. I did build a Nashville Tele with Jason Lollars and it sounds great. I have never modified any high end tele I have owned, if I buy one it is for the tone it creates with the original parts.

Hey,
Thanks for the replies. I am kind of leaning towards putting my Tele back in its original condition. I put the pickup in on a whim (go figure) at the comment of a friend that I considered to be more knowledgeable on guitars than myself at the time. I had the guitar for only a few years at that point. I had a tech put it in for me, so I didn't know anything about 250K or 500K pots until I joined the forum. I assume the original pots were used, as I was not charged for any other parts except for the pickup itself. I hope so because that was at least 10 years ago since its been installed and there would be no chance of getting the original one back. I will probably take this to a tech, but the "Authorized Fender Dealer" has a tech that I considered to be good at one time, but after a couple of poor set ups and a continuing amp issue I am not as confident with him as I once was.
