I've never seen a Fender Tele but the Squier VM thinline is a short scale 24 3/4" neck and It has some pretty good reviews on it. It has a Rosewood neck and goes for around $250 online 8)

Thanks, I will look for that. I am currently building a tele. Homemade body hollow mahogany with maple top. I was going to use an old Gobson neck that I have, but will search out the model you suggested. I also was considering a Mustang neck because I think they were short scale.

I had a Tele style guitar several years ago made by a company called "Santa Rosa" that had the short scale length. It was more of a novelty guitar with built in amp and speaker too in surf green.

I think that they're still around, but mainly acoustics only now?

Leemann:
Get yourself a Jaguar or Jagmaster neck. They are 24" scale and I've seen them every so often on eBay. Note: Jagmaster is Squier and is probably the lesser expensive of the 2; However, some Jaguars MAY be standard Fender scale at 25.5", although most are 24" as far as I know.

The Mustang neck is 24", but could be rather expensive, especially a vintage. In any case, I'd suggest that you put the best tuners on you can find, since Mustangs are the plastic type, Jagmasters are the basic Squier type and Jaguars are the standard Fender type; That is... IF the neck comes with 'original' tuning keys. The ONLY issue you may have between the necks might be the headstock shape. All 3 of the main Fender styles are there; Tele (off the VM Thinline), Small Strat & Large Strat.

Why Fender would ever make a neck that is a "Gibson" standard scale of 24.75" I have no clue. As far as I am aware, better than 90% of all Fender guitars are 25.5" and most of the rest (the 3 mentioned & Duo Sonic) are 24" scale. For any Fender, Gibson's common 24.75" is an oddity, even though they (Gibson) made a shorter scale model as well; I believe it is (or was) a special Melody Maker 3/4 edition, somewhere in the 23" range. I have little knowledge of any other scales made by Gibson. If they ever made a 'Fender' scale 25.5", I'm not aware of it, but I'm sure it's possible.

Fender Experts: IF I'm wrong about any info here, please correct me on it.

Personally, I'd love to see Squier make a Tele with a Strat tremolo, (like the HH Tele Fender now does... again), sporting a Standard Telecaster headstock (NOT a Strat type) and a Strat HSS or 'Nashville' style set of pickups, but having the bridge HB with coil split, the chrome-top single coil in the middle and a P-90 at the neck. This would also mean a 5-way w/ a mini-switch (coil-tap) between the Master Volume and Master Tone dials, not the 4 'Gibson' type dial set-up on the previously mentioned 'new' Fender Tele HH w/ Trem. Talk about 'Modified'... Wow! Now THAT is a Telecaster I'd buy! Maybe they should call it a "Telacastor" or even a "Stellacaster", especially if it's made with either of the shorter scale necks. LOL

I have a Squier Master Series Chambered Tele (dual humbuckers) and it has a 24.75" scale with a set neck (or through neck - can't remember which). I *think* they only made these for one year. Made in Korea.

Yes, (very true) it was made for about a year; a set neck and basicly an HH Thin-line sporting the 'Gibson' scale..... I have seen it.
