Has anyone had any experience with either of these? First off I do realize one is a Squier and the other a Fender with a significant difference in price. Also I was wondering about the fingerboard radius. The Squier has a 7.25" and the Fender a 12". I believe my other Fenders have a 9.5" radius. The Squier is made of agathis. Does anyone have experience with this wood? How about pups in both? My local store does not have either of these in stock so it would be hard to make a playing comparison. I love the look of these, especially the walnut 72 deluxe. Another concern is the 3 bolt neck plate on the 72. Price is always a factor with the purchase but feel will ultimate be the deciding factor. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The first big difference is the Custom II has P-90's the Squire Custom has humbuckers and would be more comparable. personally I never cared much for the bullet truss rod Fender necks. If it is a 12' radius that's like most gibson's which may explain my dislike. There is a bit a fit and finish issues between the Fender and Squire but at more than twice the price I think the Squire wins that battle cuz most of that is in the setup and fretwork which a good tech will fix rather cheap. Heck even the Fender may need a little tweaking. Ive read a lot of good reviews on both the Squire's but more on the Custom II. As for the Fender something about that Strat headstock gets me. If I went with a Fender I think I'd go for the 72 Thinline. Heck buy both Squire's and mix the P-90's with the humbucker's and have your own Custom III's 8)

My 2 cents

I can't speak for the Fender , but the Squier TeleII is a screamer as well as very versitale. I have a HWY1 Tele and just got the Tele II and the P90s are really good and hot. I wanted a Les Paul style and did alot of review reading and checking on about every thing availible under $300 and for $250 got the Tele II (well my wife and son got it for my Christmas present)and am glad they did. The only negative I see is the neck isn't finished really well compared to the HWY 1, but the frets, neck, bridge, pups and body finish is really good. I would definetly compare the quailty to a MIM. I heard about the noisy pups ..but they are awesom and as I said before scream!

The only bad review I've read on the Custom II was that the Pickups were noisy. I don't think that person knew that P-90's are single coils. Which tend to amplify any problem in the amp or circuit it's plugged into ie old wiring, florescent lighting, cheap guitar cables, etc. Personally I think it's something you get used to or adjust for I've owned/played more single coil guitars than humbuckers and never really noticed a problem that was the fault of the guitar, usually the power source.
I really want to get a Squier Custom II but may wife would shoot me if I get another guitar right now. :( Unless it was Free!!! lol

I played one once and it was a pretty nice guitar, only thing I'd want to do is re finish the neck to a gloss finish. I'd say go with the squier and rock dude
