Just wondering about the 4 way selector switch for Teles. Can anyone tell me what it does? Does it put the 2 p/ups out phase and give a tone like the in between positions on a Strat? :?

The 4 way switch gives you the neck and bridge pups in SERIES which gives a heavier (fatter) tone compared to the normal PARALLEL way they are hooked up.

So position 1 should be bridge pup, pos 2 neck and bridge in parallel, pos 3 neck pup, pos 4 neck and bridge in SERIES.

The neck and bridge are out of phase both when switched in parallel OR series.

This is assuming it is wired in a standard way (such as on the Baja Tele). You could probably wire it up just about any way you want.

Cheers.

In phase.

It is a great way to go. Like mhainz sayes, and when you play a little dirty you will really notice the extra kick!

Love it !

Don't forget the neck pickup work, unless you have Texas Specials ( they already have a separate shield (cover) wire.

The guitar is wired stock with original pickups. Do I need to swap any pickups out to make it work? I'm not sure I would want to do that as I really like both pickups. Can you let me know? Thanks for the input.

No, any single coils will work ( short answer) for the most part.

What pups do yo have ? This >2000 MIA Telecaster

Just do the neck cover mod like in the bottom of the page from the link I posted. I've done quite a pile of these so if you have trouble let me know.

You will get instructions with the switch too.

Lift up your control plate and let me know what color your pickup wires are. All the blacks would be ground.

Believe it or not, I just swapped out my strings so I don't want to yank my cover just yet. But I'm going to order the switch in the morning. It sounds like a great mod. Anytime you can get something without giving something else up in the process is a good deal. Thanks so much for the info. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Good deal.

Yep, it's well worth the 18 bucks or whatever

Any idea what changes need to be made to swap the function of positions 3 and 4, so position 3 is bridge & neck pups in series and position 4 is the neck pup only? Any info is appreciated.

How 'bout this.

Stay with a regular 3 way switch.

Install a push/pull pot, and when you pull that up you will get the series option.
