Hi,
I am looking at buying a Tele , and would like some opinions on the deluxe vs the standard american tele. I really love the deluxe in butterscotch blonde, but the price is $1850. The standard in two-tone sunburst is around $1350. I would be willing to pay the extra $500 dollars if i really thought it was that much better a guitar. This will be my first tele, and my first American guitar. I own a Squier strat that i enjoy playing, and would like to own at least one real american guitar. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ricky

I've got a '52 Tele AVS - I was more interested in the vintage. But, I've got an American Deluxe Strat with more or less the same premuim setup.

IMO the premium features are worth it, including the hand rolled fretboard edges, extra fret and nut work, and statin finish on the back of the neck make it a real pleasure to play. The S-1 switching adds to your tone selections.

Go for it. 8)

The american deluxe tele is a great guitar. I bought mine used for $900.00 it is my main axe now. The american standards are great too. With the deluxe you will have another tone option (S1 switch). I think the deluxe is the top of the line for tele's, other than custom. The scn pick-ups sound great, the chromed stainless steel bridge and chrome-plated solid brass saddles are superior in classic fender tone and craftsmanship. My butterscotch deluxe is an 06. Unfortunitely my girlfriend is jealous 'cause I pay more attention to guitar. Good luck with whichever you choose, they are both great guitars. You will know by the tone and feel of the guitars, which best suits your taste.

I bought an American Deluxe last year and I've been very pleased with it. I bought the Aged Cherry Sunburst with a maple neck. Guitar preference is very subjective- what's a plus to me may have little or no value to you, but here's some of the things that drew me to the Deluxe. Aesthetically I've always liked the looks of a bound body and Fender does a nice job on this. The contoured back really does add to the comfort of playing. I really like the Samarium Cobalt pickups- they are noiseless while delivering nice tone. I like the versatility the S-1 switching adds. With my amp ( '78 Super Twin Reverb) the S-1 switching really fattens up the tone when the pickup selector is in the middle position. It's a little different than a humbucker tone, but a nice different sounding option that I'm really glad to have. The C-shaped neck with satin finish & hand-rolled edges makes for a really comfortable neck ( again, your mileage may vary!). If you can, you should get to some music stores (with your own amp if possible) and try acouple of American Deluxes and a couple of American Standards.

i have bothe of them, and 02 am deluxe and a 96 am stnd. My am std has been my main guitar for 12 yrs, i have fraillins in it and a glendale bridge. i love the guitar it has a maple neck. It has been my work horse and i would be lost with out it! I do love my am deluxe, but i guess my point is if you dont just totally love the am deluxe do with the std! You can always do upgrades like i did!

I'd go with the one that feels best in your hands. The electronics and hardware can be changed (so can the neck for that matter but not as easily). I've always made my decisions on how it feels when I play it. Bottom line is that they are both great guitars and you can't go wrong with either one.
