Hello, i've recently bought a used Fender Telecaster, the guy that sold it to me was not able to tell me were it was made (USA, Mexico or Japan).

I've done my homework on the internet trying to know where it came from and the year ... but nothing have help me.

I will described it as best as i can but if it's not clear enough i can send some pictures via e-mail to anybody that will ask.

The headstock only say Fender and Original contour body, nothing more. The tunning key are blank (no fender on). It has 22 frets, 6 saddle bridge, a "F" is written on the back plate and the color is cream. Nothing more special i can say about the guitar ... I know that i can probably see the serial number if i remove the neck, but i'm not too good to setuping a guitar.

I know that many of you guys out there, will be able to help me. Thank you for taking some time ...

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here but I don't think I've ever heard of a TELE with "Original Contour Body". I thought that was purely a Strat thing.

22 frets would normally indicate its an American Standard or some kind of Deluxe model but without pics and / or a serial number it's pretty hard to narrow it down.

There are two books that can help. The fender telecaster (the detailed story of america's senior solid body elec. guitar) by A.R. Duchossoir and Six decades of the Fender telecaster by Tony Bacon. I learned alot between both books.

Whats the pick ups? Is it 2 humbuckers?

It may be a 70's Deluxe, they have a Strat head and a belly cut. Otherwise I smell a partscaster. Post pics please!

Unless it's an older MIA Fender or a MIA vintage reissue (22 frets means it's probably not one of these), it should have a decal on the headstock or on the back of the neck above the heel with the country of manufacture.

A free account at photobucket.com will let you post pictures here, or at least a link to them.

I agree with mhainz: I don't think I've ever heard of a TELE with "Original Contour Body".

The only Teles I can think of that just say "Fender" on the headstock and don't also say "Telecaster" are Nocasters from the Custom Shop and some recent MIK (Korea) Teles such as the Lite Ash Telecaster and some with set necks and two humbuckers. I'm not aware of these having an "Original Contour Body" decal, although the set neck MIK Teles probably do have contoured bodies.

A big thank you guys for the quick answers. You really seems to know what you're talking about.

I've done something i've sould have done long time ago... i've remove the neck.

Grrr i'm disapointed, cause i've found no serial number, really nothing ... the only thing i saw is a circle that have been made with a red pencil.

I give you some links for pictures ...

i'm ready to face the fact that it might be a fake ... can you confirm?

I can't say I've ever seen a Fender logo which looks like that one.

I could be wrong but it just doesn't look "right" to me. I'd take a guess and say someone has just put it together with parts as even the bridge doesn't look like a Fender Tele bridge (although it is a bit unclear in the pics).

Anyone elses thoughts?

Yeah, something about the logo looks not right...I cannot 100% say its fake, but it just looks very odd to me...

I suggest posting something over at:
http://tdpri.com/forum/

A Telecaster forum with many Telecaster experts who may be able to help you figure out what the deal is with that guitar...

From what I can see, and I'm very sorry, but it's as fake as Dave Letterman.

The logo is not right at all and contoured body falls to Strats only as the have 'the original contour body' whereas Tele's are known as the plank.

It looks like a decent partscaster but every decal on that headstock is as wrong as wrong can be.

Sorry dude. I'm angry as hell too.
