dom,
this is just my opinion..not a put down or anything like that. I have been playing for 35 years...and I have searched high and low for the perfect sound...bought new guitars and changed the pups even before playing it through different amps. I would suggest you get the guitar and then try it through your current amp...if you don't like the sound try it through different amps at a music store. I have seen guys find out that it is more the amp than the pickups....my best set up...a 2009 Fender HWY 1 Tele(all stock) through a Fender Super Champ XD. Just my advice. Hope it helps.
Eric

I have to agree with that guy, there are a lot of things that contribute to a guitars sound. Pickups can make a HUGE difference though, if you're goin for a beefier sound than a stock tele you could try p-90s or maybe a humbucker. If you're goin for indie, try something unorthodox like a jazz pickup or something, something that really wasn't designed to handle a lot of distortion, it'll get a really cool "I wasn't meant for this" sort of sound, plus it'll give you the opportunity to really create your own sound

I've heard so many different sounding "Indie" guitarists that I'm not sure that there even is a definitive "Indie Sound" anymore?

yeah id love for someone to define "indie" for me, surely since its short for independent and as such every one who calls them selves indie is different it cant really be a genre.

I'm a big fan of the stock Tele pickups for everything. If I was ever going to make a change I would install a CS Twisted Tele pickup in the neck position.

Try a jazzmaster....might be more suited to indie tunes..

Yeah, this decades indie is a lot different to what was called indie in the 90s. I'm guessin you wantin a bright clean sound? Or am i WAY off the mark?

Well, as I see indie, I see a combination of different tones. Some acoustic, some clean and some distortion. I see a more fat sound rather than a typical Tele single coil tone. Don't get me wrong, you can also get a lot of that with a tele, but it means a lot of work. With foot pedals and loops, you can use any guitar and get what ever kind of tone yu are seeking. But if you ask me what is the best guitar for any genre of music, I will always answer the guitar and amp combination that feels and sounds the best.

I agree. What is an indie sound anyway? I can think of a hundred indie sounds. The SCXD is FAB... that'll give you about fifty of them! Good luck.
