I'm buying a mexican standard tele pretty soon, and i love customizing my guitars. Can anyone tell me if its possible, and what the pros/cons would be of putting a mustang or jaguar bridge on a telecaster?

you would have to have some system passed the bridge in order for this to work.

tele - 25.5" scale
stang/jag - 24" scale

what's the point, exactly?

those bridges are for guitars with tremolos, hence their ability to 'rock' front to back.

you'd have to put either a bigsby or jag/jazz trem to give the strings somewhere to go after the bridge.

sounds like a pain in the $@! for no advantage.

Ya, i was thinkin about it cause i like the floating trem more than a bigsby personally, but the scale diff had crossed my mind. Has anyone ever seen this done before? I'd kind f like a trem, but i dont really want a bigsby. Also...is it possible to get the GE Smith tele bridge by itself?

something interesting... I recently saw the documentary "it might get loud" in one of the final scenes you see Jimmy Page playing a great blonde telecaster WITH a mustang style tremolo on it...im not sure of anything other than...it has been done.

Hm, I might have to check that out, thanks. Moving on...does anyone know what sort of sound a charlie christian style pickup would get in the neck or middle position? I'm thinkin it would be a lot smoother than a stock tele neck pup, would it even be worthwhile in the middle position?

Ive heard that they are much like a P-90 pickup but a little sweeter, a clearer tone than how muddy a p-90 can get. I think it would be nice as a middle position on a telecaster. kinda like the Nashville ( i think thats the one) telecaster

That sounds perfect, too bad they don't make a bridge position model, i was thinkin of putting a p-90 in the bridge, but i'd need a whole new bridge and some serious routing

I saw this movie last week, and recommend it to anyone with the slightest interest in the electric guitar.

Back on topic, Page's Telecaster with the Mustang bridge got my motor runnin'. I've always liked the Mustang bridge, and wonder what all would be involved in the conversion? Also, someone mentioned scale length. Is this a factor? Have any of you actually done this? Pictures..?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

scale is very much a factor in intonation. Remember from the nut to the 12 fret has to be the same distance as the 12 fret to the bridge for correct intonation (measuring doesn't always give you perfect intonation but thats what its supposed to be.

Nice Tele with Jag/Jazz tremolo. Why would scale is a problem to put this kind of tremolo? Simply put the ''Bigsby'' pickup plate and the bridge. Rout the Tele for that kind of trem and... rock on!

It's a great idea. I personally am a huge fan of Phoenix's Mustangified Telecaster:

There's a company that makes vibratos for Teles that requires no alterations or hole drilling in your Tele it's called the Stetsbar Pro II it retails for around $230 and can be set floating or down only it comes with the vibrato and bridge assembly all in one unit. You can contact them at www.stetsbar.com or (716)675-0009.Hope this helps.
