so, lately i have been wondering about the pros and cons of replacing the stock bridge assembly on my telecaster..the guitar in question is an '08 ash bodied rosewood fretboard american standard with a natural finsh..only mods done are pickup replacement- the bridge is a dimarzio virtual hot bridge...i have just been wondering if i can improve upon this 6 saddle standard bridge that came stock..it seems to me i could get some better high string definition with a beefier bridge set-up. i have heard good things about the benefits of a 3 saddle bridge as opposed to 6. ..and many other opinions considering brass, steel, etc..my style is mainly rock/indie originals with tones about half being under serious crunch and the others being clean/ delay/ slight overdrive...i play an orange rockerverb 50 and a fender deluxe reverb RI in stereo... so, i am not in search of a "twang" tone so to say, but just the beefiest most even string response i can get. the bridge p/u swap was a major improvement but i still think i can get even more out of my setup with the right bridge. anybody have an opinion or exprience with this? two companies ive come across are callaham and glendale..

JMO...if you go to a 3 saddle bridge...you are going to get more twang. I have 2 Teles one with a 6 saddle modern bridge and one with a traditional 3 saddle bridge. I find that the 3 saddle is a Twang machine big time. I think maybe if you work on tweaking your amp settings and maybe get an EQ pedal this might help you find the tone you are looking for. Hope that this helps.

cool man thanks for the input..thats what i always thought as well, but when i started looking up more info i've just come across many players of all styles swearing by 3 saddle bridges. supposedly getting a bigger sound, better response and sustain..it seems like one of those elusive answers that might just be totally up to individual ears, haha..

what are the other differences b/w your guitars, besides the bridge?
i havent even really tried looking for 6 saddle replacements..maybe companies like wilkinson make them? the callaham and glendale seem to make mostly, if not all, 3 saddle bridges..hmmm... even if i wound up with a six saddle, it seems to me i could get a better one than the american standard. maybe its just me , but it seems kinda dated, or somthing, idk. i know they have changed the design from even a few years ago, but those stamped saddles and height adjustment screws that stick out everywhere just seem like they could stand for improvment.

Before looking into bridges, have you just tried going up to a bigger set of strings? Going to a bigger gauge can often times give you more beef and definition, since there's more metal moving over the pickups...Just a thought...

yes, i did think about that.. I already play on 10s, a big gauge by no means of course..but all things considered, i prob would never wanna go past 11s really for playing comfort, would that jump make much difference? i was thinking about it b/c i know the bigger the string will also sound best recorded, but i wont wanna go crazy to like 12's/13's or anything.. i tune to standard and generally use med/heavy picks. since the strings are cheap though, i might grab a set of 11s this weekend just to try out anyway..the weather is changing and i should really set up my guitar anyway!
