I put this in the wrong forum earlier so forgive me if you have already seen it.

I have a MIM Telecaster into a new Champion 600 RI. Love the tones I am getting, especially for me and my playing level. Was going to get a Blues Jr but it was to much amp and to much money for the space I play in. Anyway, what I would like to know is your opinions on an overdrive/distortion pedal? Not heavy but just that little bit of "crunch" or "
fuzz" at lower volumes.

I also will be getting a EHX Holy Grail reverb pedal soon. Any opinions on this?

Thanks in advance.

Tube Screamers and Blues Drivers are some of my favs. Right now, I have a Tube Screamer on my board. A couple of new thoughts, for you.....The new Boss Deluxe Reverb Pedal adds a bit of crunchy warmth if you play through a clean amp. One of my great finds, however, was a guy on Ebay selling a clone of a Red Llama. I'd never heard of it, but after some internet research, I found that Red Llamas were well thought of. Tom Petty had one on his board, and he might still. Red Llamas aren't made anymore and used ones are pricey. I bought the clone. I've used it for a loud pedal, but I also just leave the darn thing on and use it for tone. For gigging, I use a Tech 21 NYC 60 watt amp and a matching slave 60 watt amp. Those amps are great for clean tones and I let the pedals do the work. Finally, you can't go wrong with a Holy Grail for reverb. But, since I got the Deluxe Reverb pedal, I've been using it's reverb and saving a space on my board. [/url]

I am thinking of an overdrive pedal, a reverb pedal, and maybe a fuzz pedal so I am able to get what I want at lower volumes. I play and practice in a small area and the lady upstairs (my wife) is always telling me to turn it down. Got to try to keep the peace. :D

Vox Tonelab SE.
It's just everything you'll ever need, and a bit more.
Personally i use it with my Fender FM 212R amp.
I've got an Telecaster too, wich is most satisfying 8)

+1 on the Bad Monkey, an easy 40 bucks to spend.

I also like the Boss SD-1 and the Fulltone OCD.

Happy hunting!

I would go with the Route 66 from Visual Sounds. It is by far the best pedal I have owned. It's a dual pedal, OD and compressor. Great tone and the comp side can be used as a clean boost. Just my$.02

I like the Ibanez tube screamer but if you can find one try one of the old version Marshall Gov'nr's. Those things sound great. Nice vintage tone and not toomuch overdrive. Not the best for hard rock but nice for blues and new country...if that's what you are going for.

yeah I am really lovin it. especially now that I put JJ's and a Weber Speaker in it. It is probably "perfect" for my uses and playing ability now.

The sound i am looking for is that Black Crowes, Marc Ford, Wilco, Son Volt, rythm guitar warm crunchy goodness!!! :D

I should have some money to play with after Christmas.

There's a reason everyone is pumping up the Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9--they're great! I have an early reissue, and I am completely satisfied.

An often overlooked (and reasonably priced) alternative would be a Danelectro Daddy-O. Try to get the instruction book (if possible) if you're not a "Knob Tweaker"; the suggested settings are pretty good. You can get some pretty cool vintage tones out of this heavy little box...good for the classic rock and alternative country sounds you're seeking.

I have both of these stompboxes on my pedalboard, and they both get used (individually AND together) at every gig, recording session and jam.

My personal favorite is the Visual Sounds V2 Jekyll & Hyde pedal. It is essentially 2 pedals, a tube screamer (jekyll) and a distortion pedal(hyde). The V2 is much better built than its predecessor and sounds amazing. You can play either effect seperate or combined so you have a lot of options. It also has a bass boost switch on the Jekyll side and a sharp/blunt switch on the hyde side. Both sides put out amazing tone. Has a built in noisegate that is adjustable. You can also adjust the bass boost. I personally love it and its extremely versatile. I use it with my Tele for softer more expressive sounds and my SG for all out aggression. For the amount you get its actually fairly cheap too. Check it out if you're interested.

I use the Boss OS-2. That gives you two pedals in one, and more. It does overdrive AND distortion. It has a dial-type knob......that you can turn all the way to Overdrive for pure overdrive, or all the way to distortion for pure distortion. But.....as you turn the knob from one side to the other, it will mix the overdrive and distortion to all kinds of mixes (of overdrive and distortion) for a big variety.
