Treble at 8 and bass at 5 seems to allow me to play about any style while making changes with the pup switch and tone pot.

It depends on the amp, on the guitar, on what I feel like and on the room.

I usually have Treble, Mids, and Bass all on 5.....but sometimes I need to tweak depending on the pups in a particular guitar. I find this setting with a preamp boost gives me the tone I want.

The secret formula for perfect amp settings can be found by close scrutiny and study of the 10¢ coin.

On my Pro Jr I have the volume around 5, tone at 3. 5 is the breaking point on my PJ.

Tone and Gain 3/4 of the way up! Volume usually only hits about 3 because I live in an apartment. I like to dime it out whenever no one is home though!

With my Vox AC4TV - single tone control - about 1 o'clock and set the volume for a little dirt!

With my Marshall Artist 3203 - treble, mid, bass all at 5 and use the gain for tone adjustment alongside some tweaks on my Tele tone knob. If you've never run your tele through one of these with a matching 4X10 Marshall cab, then you gotta try it!! 8)

820ray,
How do you like that AC4TV? I've been thinking about getting one and have heard pretty good things about them. Would you recommend it for quite home use?

Hi - I've had my AC4TV for about 6 months and until a couple of weeks back I would have unreservedly recommended it to anyone. The tone is great and you can get the results of a fully pushed valve at amazingly low volumes - so home use for sure. Also on the top 4 watt level, it is loud enough for proper practice etc - and you can plug in an extension cab, so all good.

My only "but" is that the 4 watt level has recently developed an annoying flutter, which is there on every guitar and lead I own and also when there is nothing plugged in at all, so it is definitely the amp.

I'm sure it's fixable, but unfortunately my wife got me this as a present and doesn't have the paperwork, so looks like I will have to pay :(
To be fair, I have searched other forums and no one else is reporting similar issues, so I could just be unlucky.

Best bang for your buck in a solid state amp: Roland 60 watt Cube...

You can connect 2 together for a monster level of sound...
