My recommendation would be to try the ones that are in the new guitar for a couple of weeks and then determine what it is that you want, but don't hear.

After you've decided that, we can help you choose pickups that might be what you're looking for.

Good luck!

i liked the stock neck pickup, very mellow. to compliment it, i went for a vintage 54 stl-1 seymour duncan bridge pickup. also i really liked the idea of having a vintage bridge, so i put a fender vintage chrome 3 saddle/brass. sounds killer for classic tones. have fun with it, nothing is permanent.

pickup -

bridge -

ps. the bridge makes it harder to adjust intonation.

Good that you're working with the instrument (neck pick up). The bottom line with ALL pickup upgrades IMO is that the acoustic (unplugged) quality of your particular guitar is the starting point..."upgrades" are limited by that and this is particularly true with Teles.

As Mike said, but I wouldn't say a couple weeks, but at least a couple months. There's no reason to change what ain't broken.

Per example, I only changed the stock pickups in my Tele after I accepted the fact they had a jangly, low output "Bakersfield" tone - that's what they were meant for, and I wanted an early 50s, snarling and more compressed tone.

I have a MIM tele and I switched out the stock pickups for a set of 54' nocaster custom shop pickups and I couldn't be happier. They seem to be everything I need them to be to get a variety of sounds. You can get them at a fair price if you look around.

I think playing your stock guitar for a while might be a good ideas as the other dudes said. See what you can do with your amp settings and maybe a pedal. If you still can't find your tone, get the upgrade.

That a tough question to ask a bunch of tele lovers. I suggest you get a new Tele for each style of pickup made. You'll be happier than Hugh Hefner

Good answer and way of looking at the now gig worthy MIM Standard.

The 52 Reissue is worth the wait and investment.

Alder body Teles vs. Ash... a whole new topic...

I know I am starting to sound like I work for them but the answer is

KINMAN BROADCASTER Telecaster pickups

Pricey yes, but worth every penny. I've yet to meet anyone who was disappointed in the tones put out by my old tele that has them in it. Most want to buy it afterwards.
