HI am purchasing a new tele and it come with 9's I preferr 10, elixer poly web. they might drop these in manufactering and only offer nano's write elixer if you like the ploy web. anyways do I need to have it set op for 10's to get the proper intonation? I would have a professional do it so it "right ", right from the start. any ideas? please no gues thanks

Never cared much for Elixers on an electric guitar even thought I use Nano-Webs (11-52) pretty much exclusively on both my Taylor acoustics. Only time I use anything different is for recording when I switch to Martin SP's. Prefer Nano to Poly in any case so I won't be writing in to complain if they discontinue them. If the Poly's were big sellers they wouldn't be dropping them.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I can go from 9's to 10's on my Tele witout making any adjustements, but on my Strats I do have to tweak the setup slightly.

Agreed. Zero effect on intonation for me on Teles. The added issue with Strats esp. with alnico V's is a string vloser to a strong magnet, not just the saddles...

I play 10's original 150's and love em...

FWIW, I agree. Nano 12's on my Larrivee, but not for electrics.

Dramatic news: I went back to 9's...

Slight revision: I do think there IS a subtle change in intonation esp. above the 10th fret...going from XL's to 10's...so my "zero effect" statement...most noticeable in chording...

I also have come to share the paradoxical opinion that 10's sound "brighter" or even "too bright" on a Tele...realizing this IS a matter of preference of course...

I also switched from 9s to 10s and there was some intonation adjustment necessary on all 3 of the vintage saddles. I had to only turn the screws maybe almost 2 turns on the high E and B. About 1-1/2 turns for the D and G saddle and roughly 1 turn for the low E and A. So don't be surprised if there is some slight adjustments needed but its not rocket science.
